When cancelling service, what all equipment needs to be returned? I know receivers and remotes, what else?

Only the receiver/client boxes get returned. Everything else you own upon install.
What are the model numbers of each box you have?

The remotes are yours. Too much happens to remotes in general, so not worth it to require return and refurbishing of them. Unless you know someone who needs a backup DirecTV remote, just recycle like other electronics.
Depends on the model numbers of your boxes on which (if any) are returnable.
