Change in Satellite Position
I got a phone call today to tell me I will lose service in 5 to 7 days unless I talk to the technical team. The caller then wanted my password. I refused to give it. He gave me a phone number to call (614.869.3736) the technical team. Before I do, I want to be sure this is a legitimate call, which I doubt.
Please verify if it is or is not a legitimate call from a Directv representative.

almost certainly a scam. none of the satellites have moved. and in any case, directv does not call you.

That absolutely was a scam. Satellites cannot move as they are in geosynchronous orbit and apply to everyone.
The only real technical change is DirecTV is shutting down their MPEG-2/SD-only feeds. This means those with legacy equipment must get it swapped or lose service. For that they call the official publicly listed customer support number. DirecTV does not call them.
So the call itself was a scam. But to see if you should call DirecTV, what are the model numbers of each of your boxes? That will confirm if there is anything required to be swapped to continue using service, can leave everything the way it is, or perhaps there is a reasonable upgrade to consider. Unlike things like password and Receiver ID (RID) or the like, model numbers are not sensitive info.
