Direct tv reciever seems to be bad. It is old 2016 and is not working in a lot of areas. A wifi card has broken apart.
We have had this reciever since we signed up for Direct TV. It is old and has lots of problems including broken wifi plug in in the back of the unit. I think we need a new reciever because we are tired of the problems.
I can go back to COX cable tv for about the same cost. We need help, not more try this or try that.

What is the receiver model? By broken Wi-Fi plug do you mean a broken Ethernet connector? Most modern receivers like the HR44 and HR54 (around 2016 boxes) have wireless Wi-Fi built into it as well as a wired connection via the Ethernet port.
In any event, call DIRECTV (number in my greeting below) to request a replacement receiver. You pay shipping of $19.95 for the new box or it is free if you have the Protection Plan.

What model is the receiver?
What do you mean by "WiFi Card" or "WiFi Plug"?
What other problems are you referring to?
What are the models of any other box you have? (might affect replacement or other options).
If the box itself needs replacing, and if a tech is not needed (depending on your setup), that is $19.95 delivery when you order from DirecTV.

This receiver is not particularly old. But if it's actually faulty, Directv will replace it as juniper and detuch254 have posted.

If you have protection plan it's free of cost.

If you have the protection plan, a replacement box would be covered. But I disagree with "free of cost" on principal. You pay that $8.99 every month whether you use it or not. A lot of people pay more over the years than the individual costs would have been.

Protection Plan pays for itself when things go wrong. It's insurance and you never know when you will need it.

Service calls are only $99 to fix anything wrong with the system with a 90 day warranty. The tech that came out replaced the dish when I had a problem 2 weeks ago.

@CobbTotem3
For DirecTV it doesn't.
Protection plan $8.99 a month/$107.88 a year.
Service calls are $99.
Delivery of replacement box $19.95
Remote $15, though cheaper through other retailers (Amazon, Wal-Mart, etc.).
If you have to use the protection plan often enough to be cheaper than the one-time costs, something is very wrong. Having the protection plan for 2-3 years and you've already lost money. It is more for people who cannot manage reserve funds, so do better with a known monthly cost even if they are paying more overall.

@Juniper Saying to me "Having the protection plan for 2-3 years and you've already lost money. It is more for people who cannot manage reserve funds, so do better with a known monthly cost even if they are paying more overall."
You are out of line saying that anybody.

That is where the protection plan has the most value. Had a friend who was not good at long term financial management, so a plan like that helped him a lot. Sure he paid more than the one-time costs, but saved him the headache as he could better handle month to month.
There was nothing out of line with what I said. That is where the protection plan holds the most value. So a honest value comparison is just that.

@Juniper There was plenty out of line what you said. Sometimes you come off talking down to people and condescending and you do not realize it. So just letting you know and I am not here to fight.
Protection plan was $6.99 at one point and was totally worth signing up for it. But as in life prices go up year after year.

Certainly not intending to talk down to anyone. That is my honest perception of the value. Not saying that is the situation for all that have it, but that is where most of the worth comes from in my opinion.
The point being, is that it is not a good monetary value. The one-time costs save you money over time.
