My HR54/700 is using one now, and I think the HR 24 series will work with the AM21.

hr44-500 is my current receiver and they told me yesterday that the genie 2 WILL work. I guess I'm more trying to find out if that is correct info, but nobody seems to know.

The Genie-2 (HS17) does not support the long discontinued (years ago) AM21, or even the new Local Channel Connector (LCC) that is still technically in beta testing. Of of several points against this limited system.
