DirecTV DVR/Receiver Replacement Inquiry

Hi,

I read in this DirecTV support forum post (forums.att.com/conversations/directv-dvr-receivers/directv-upgrade-for-existing-customers/5f0deae249d3ca5037e4765a) that some people that have old Receivers/DVRs can get them replaced for free. Am I eligible for these free replacements? I am still using DirecTV equipment that I got in 2011/2012. I have 4 receivers/DVRs. On all of them, I have the following problems:

1. My resolution is quite bad (720p) even though I am paying for 1080p/i in my TV plan and have only 4k TVs.

2. My receivers glitch a lot by not playing/pausing when I press the play and pause buttons. I have followed troubleshooting steps and replaced my remotes 3 times.

3. I am not getting nearly as many TV shows as I used to even though I am paying much more than I used to per month.

4. I cannot buy movies on my DVR anymore (which I miss).

Can I get my DVRs replaced for free? If so, how and where can I get them replaced?

Thank you

What model receivers do you have? The free replacements are for customers with mpeg2, i.e. standard definition receivers. If you have 720p, that is HD and mpeg4 meaning it doesn’t qualify. You can get any receiver replaced for the cost of shipping, though, if it’s failing. The trick is convincing Directv it’s failing. The “glitches” you describe don’t sound like failing receivers. Just FYI, 720p resolution should be as good as 1080i but you don’t pay for either, you pay for HD and both of those are HD. There are very few channels broadcasting in 1080p. I thought only a few Directv cinema channels were 1080p but there may be some more now.

Thank you for the speedy reply! I will look at my unit model numbers and call them tomorrow! Also, I can get my receivers replaced as long as I pay for shipping?

Warranty replacements are $19.95 delivery (per box).

Upgrades are optional, come with a 24 month agreement, and might affect monthly billing depending what you get compared to your setup.

Then there is the MPEG swap program which works a little special. This is for people with MPEG-2/SD-only boxes. Those old feeds are shutting down making those models obsolete. No service agreement, and new monthly fees are credited (at least temporarily) as this is a requirement to continue using the service as opposed to an optional upgrade.

Once you post back with the models of each box we can provide guidance for your exact seutp.
