External HD for HR24 receiver
My HR24 HD receiver has a message that says "receiver overheating"
Will this problem be resolved by installing an external compatible hard disk to this receiver?

No as that doesn't do anything to cool the receiver. I would verify vents are free of dust, not in direct sunlight, and not stacked with anything that could be adding heat. Make sure not in an enclosed space.
An external eSATA drive would be used to store new recordings in place of the internal. What is on the internal doesn't delete so you could go back to it if needed. Supports up to an 2TB external.

The fan may have stop working, you can try an external fan.
