You do not need the protection plan.
If it has been over 2 years of active service, with account in good standing, you 'should' be qualified for a free upgrade. There should not be a charge on the Mini Genie Client itself. If you order more than one, the additional are normally not free.
Either way, the WVB will be $99 because it is an owned accessory not covered by the free upgrade. And you will still have the 24 month service agreement.

You already have the slimline SWM dish there is nothing newer and is not part of the upgrade all the tech can do is replace the SWM LNB with the newest SWM RBLNB, You can get the HS17 Genie 2 and lose the HR44 and needing the WVB and be able to have the C71KW gemini and use a C61W or another C71KW, how much DTV will charge is up to them to tell you when you call. Again you do not need the protection plan but it is up to you if you want it.

You have a Genie so you already have the current dish.
Protection plan is NOT needed. For many it is even a waste of money.

WVB is the Wireless Video Bridge that is built into the HS17 Genie2 but needed if you keep the HR44 to use wireless minis.

The WVB is the wireless video bridge. This is the wireless antenna that communicates with any wireless Mini Genies you have. Since you have the HR44, you need the WVB.
If you have equipment issues, certainly share. We try to help where we can.

Both the HR54/44 need a WVB to use wireless minis. DTV regards both the HR54/44 as the same and sends the next available receiver but it is surprising they are still sending out HR44s unless they are getting rid of them as they are no longer returnable.

One of the most confusing and lengthy discussions ever with this person has continued for several days at DBSTalk ....
https://www.dbstalk.com/threads/sportman31-genie-gemini-directv-configuration-questions.232561/unread
Sportman simply needs to call DirecTV and have them take care of this for him. No amount of guidance from us seems to answer his questions.

All of your questions, and more, have been answered in your DBSTalk thread. No need ask the same questions here.

Seriously, all of those questions have been answered in your discussion at DBSTalk, including diagrams showing exactly what you need. It's OK if you don't understand all of this stuff because it is indeed complicated. You simply need a DirecTV tech to come and take care of it for you.

OP has also caused a scene over at satelliteguys.us, let alone DBSTalk and here. I’m not sure if they are trolling or actually need serious help. Question after question seems excessive.
