Genie Mini Replacement Needed?

On an intermittent basis, our Genie mini gives us the 620 error code.  After a few hours or the next day, the Genie mini works fine again.  Now we are getting the 620 error code and, after resetting the mini as well as the main receiver, the error code persists.  To troubleshoot, I switched the two receivers.  The main receiver works fine where the mini had been.  But now the Genie mini is not working where the main receiver had been.  Does this mean the Genie mini is faulty and should be replaced?  It can’t be a cable issue if the main receiver works where the mini had been - right?

What are the model numbers of the main Genie and client? While it could technically be a bad client, it may also be a cabling issue.

The main Genie is an HR54-500 and the mini is a C61-100.  The main receiver was replaced last year.  It just does not make sense that the main Genie works in both locations but the mini works most of the time but then decides to have a cable condition error.

Either the port the cable connects to on the Mini Genie is damaged/faulty or the cable has an issue that is intermittent enough that it just didn't show up when you tested the main Genie with it. Either way it would make sense for what you've experienced.

If the Mini Genie has the issue in both locations, then it is most likely the problem. Whether it is getting a replacement box shipped or a tech scheduled for a service call to repair cabling, either way you're going to need to call DirecTV at this point.

Well, the Genie mini is working again!  We had the video communication error since yesterday morning and, all of a sudden, it started working again this afternoon.  I will call Directv next week but really think it is the mini box that is the problem.

The main receiver receives signal from the satellite dish over a different set of frequencies than what is used to communicate from the main receiver to the mini. So while it is possible it is the mini at fault, it is quite possible there is a cabling problem that is blocking only certain frequencies.. If you are the diy type you could check all the connections to make there is no burnt or corroded connections. You must unscrew them to check. Then make sure they are good and tight. Make sure only the cables being used are attached to the splitter and there are no unterminated ports on the splitter. Make sure there are no non-Directv components attached.
