But, before doing so, if they offer the HS17, you will lose all standalone HD and HD-DVR receivers like the HR24 and H25. I think the HR44 could have been 2014 too, could be wrong.
If you are looking to upgrade an HR44, there really is no point.

Do you have any other receivers (important)?
If it's your only receiver, and it's an HR34, call Directv and tell them it won't power up, then you will get a replacement (you might have to pay shipping)

@shannon02 after some research it appears the HR44 was out in 2014 so the OP could have an HR44 (pretty unlikely though.)
@DianeEAZ14 please confirm the model number of your current genie receiver.

The original, or 1st generation, is HR34. If that is the model you have then I highly suggest a warranty replacement (NOT UPGRADE). You would get either a HR44 or HR54 depending on stock. The HR34 is well known for being slow and overheating.
Is that your only box? If not, what are the models of any others you have? Best to get guidance before talking to an agent who may try an upsell that is not good for you.
