How can I transfer the programs I want to keep?

Just installed a replacement for my 6 year old Genie.

Email from DirecTV "No need to return your DIRECTV equipment. Recycle it!"

OLD unit failed in the HDMI Output only

HOW may I hook the new and old and transfer many programs I want to keep?

You can't -Recording stay with the receiver they are recorded on. Only way is  re-record the content.

DTV only allows 1 Genie per account so the old one is a brick.

With the OLD Genie connected to the net and Sat, can I use it as a whole house server?

DO you have it connected now? --Once DirectTV has removed your receiver from your account -it disables the software of the unit making it a brick (or a Door stop) --However connect it and see.

@Will33868

Only 1 Genie/Genie Lite/Genie-2 may be active on the account. This is because it works as a server and they could not get multiple to play well together. So there is no option to have them working on the same account.

There is no option to transfer data (recordings or otherwise) from one DVR (Genie or other model) to another. All that is encrypted to the exact box.

Because of grandfathering MPEG-2/SD-only in 2015 (now being completely shutdown, and going to lease-only with the 1st Genie (owned options for earlier models stopped shortly after), the new billing account system does not allow reactivation of boxes. Once deactivated it is returned or recycled (depending on model).

Sorry but what you want is not available.
