HR24 upgrade to 4k Genie

Hello - i am upgrading from 4 receivers:  HR24-100, HR24-200, and HR24-500 (2).  I want to move to a 4K Genie receiver with DVR for 2 of the TV's and 2 others just need to be HD, and be able to connect to whole house and play from the other playlists.

My order today came back with 1 Genie, 3 Genie Mini's and 1 Genie Wireless.  Is that solving what I need?  I can't tell from the website if the 3 Genie Mini's also have DVR.  I assume they don't.

What configuration will give me 2 4k HD DVR's and 2 HD receivers?  Is there anything specific I should follow up with on the model numbers?  Thanks.

That order is a downgrade. Mini Genies are Clients, not receivers, so they have no tuners of their own. They steal capability from the main Genie. Plus you lose all recordings you already have since that order is replacing every single HDDVR, plus the additional tuners.

You have 2 upgrade options to consider.

1. Upgrade a single HR24 to a Genie. This goes from a 2 tuner/500GB HDDDVR to a 5 tuner/1TB HDDVR, which also has Picture in Picture on that one box.

2. Do a 4K upgrade. This replaces two of your HR24s. The non-4K TV gets the Genie, and the 4K TV gets a Mini Genie Client (specifically C61K, the only 4K model box they have). This goes from 4 tuners between the two HDDVRs to 5 for the Genie, so gains you 1 tuner. The total recording space remains the same.

With both options recordings in any replaced HDDVR are lost. You add the $3 Whole Home DVR (assuming you don't already have it) allowing all TVs to see the recordings from each (the 4K programs are only viewable on the 4K Client of course).

Since there are only a couple channels in 4K, plus a few PPVs, I personally suggest option 1 to get the most bang for your buck. But regardless, the agent placed a bad order as you don't replace all your current HDDVRs.

Thanks.  I do have whole home DVR currently, and do have the $10 monthly maintenance to be able to upgrade all 4 receivers at no charge.  Will look at both options, but will be changing the order from the Genie2.  Thanks.

The protection plan should be $8.99, not $10. Plus you get free upgrades without it (just has to be at least 2 years of active service since your last one). With one-time costs of $99 service call and $19.95 delivery for replacement boxes, I personally don't find the protection plan a good value as you pay more over time.

A free upgrade covers a single box with one exception. Going to your first Genie it allows up to 3 Mini Genie Clients as part of the upgrade. An encouragement to get everybody on the Genie setup with full receiver services I understand. Though as a note, that doesn't cover the wireless video bridge (WVB) as that is an owned accessory of $99 (needed if you ever get a wireless Client).

If your order was for the Genie-2 (HS17), then that was a further downgrade. This one model doesn't allow other receivers on the account. It only allows Clients. That hard caps the system. A regular Genie on 1 TV with traditional HDDVRs on the others, or even a 4K Client on one for those who prefer it, is the most capable and flexible setup.

Thanks.  Appreciate saving me a bunch of hassle down the road.  Will be calling today to change the order.
