We've been a customer for years.
We have a cottage up north Wisconsin, and would like to have dtv up there. We are retired and have to watch our budget. We now pay $290 in a bundle with our cell phones. How do we go about doing this? We are only up there for long weekends once or twice a month.

You can take a streaming device up to the cottage to watch most of the channels in your programming package. This can be a Roku, Fire Stick, Apple TV, etc.
You can also bring up one of your receivers (as long as it is a standalone receiver and not a Genie mini or the HS17). You’d need to buy and aim a DIRECTV SWM Slimline HD dish then wire coax to one of the receivers. This is a more tricky method, and directv won’t help you on this.

Hello @ChrisWarren, we can assist you with your service inquiry. To keep watching your favorite programming, we offer you DIRECTV Via Internet (requires a device) or DIRECTV STREAM (Bring Your Own Device), which you can simply enjoy by downloading our App. Here https://streamtv.directv.com/channels/ you can check the channel lineup and here https://streamtv.directv.com/stream-packages/ the package we have. Thank you for contacting us, don't hesitate to reach out to us if you need any assistance. Have great day. Laura, DIRECTV Community Specialist

If you do choose to install DirecTV at the cottage, there is no difference in monthly cost. You just have the one-time cost of the dish, cabling etc., plus if you have a 3rd party do the work for you. This is simply using your existing service.
Technically, DirecTV would need you have a separate account because locals, Regional Sports, and taxes are regulated by the exact physical address. But I would only do that if you were going to be there for months (since you can suspend each account). For long weekends, once or twice a month, then taking a box with you would be more practical (or possibly leaving it there if you've got one not used as much at home).
Be aware that you will lose locals if the cottage is outside the spot beam for your home area. And while up there you will not have access to recordings on your other boxes as Whole Home DVR only functions for boxes on the same physical setup.
If your boxes are H or HR models, this can be done as those are standalone. (though if HR34, HR44, HR54 is suggested to leave at the house as that is the Genie to be easier). If you have the Genie-2 (HS17) then you cannot as it only allows Clients (such as C31) which cannot work by themselves.
Since you say "for years", if you have any models that just start with D or R then other updates may be needed. Let us know if you have any of those.
