New 4K TV looks terrible with Direct TV
I don't know what the deal is. I've gone backwards, with a picture that looks more like SD than HD, let alone UHD
Of course, I get that few channels are UHD.
It this just a case of the TV (an LG C1 65", top rated) interpolating up the HD DTV signal to UHD?
I keep reading about Genie this and box that.
They sent me a new box, made in 2021, but it looks identical to the old one.
Otherwise, I yet to get any real, credible help from the DTV tech team.
I'm thinking of bailing to YT or Hulu Plus or something.
Any help appreciated.

DTV can't send you one as they need to install coax to use it.

@geary126 yes please try performing a red button reset on the main Genie receiver. As others have stated, you have the C41W, which without a C61K is incapable of receiving 4K channels. Now do be aware that this has no effect on the quality of other channels like ESPN HD or GSN HD, especially because there are only a few 4K channels available as of right now. As a side note, check the Format on the C41W as I previously stated and be sure you are tuning to the HD version of each channel, not the SD version.
also, does the problem occur with any other receivers in your home or just the C41W?

C41W is the 1st generation wireless Mini Genie Client. It does not get 4K.
The only box that is 4K is the C61K which is wired only. It requires either the 3rd generation Genie (HR54) or Genie-2 (HS17) as part of the install.
They cannot ship you a 4K upgrade as it requires tech install. That includes running coax to the location the 4K TV is at.

@detuch254
Thanks. I was looking at espn hd etc because I assumed that live sports would invest in good signal quality, cameras etc
i get that many channels aren’t 4k. I’m just not sure if I’m getting HD now.
second, if the tv has to interpolate the picture up, is there a box I can get that does a better job vs the tv doing it?
Or can I have the tv revert to HD, mapped larger, so that I get at least HD looking good?
this is literally a giant step backwards
jagged edges, blurry everything, etc.
thanks!

ESPN often has poor video quality on live sports events. The video compression that they use doesn't handle real-time sporting events very well. It's an often seen complaint here.
