Old Direct TV cables
I bought a house and it has a direct TV satalite on it. I want to remove it but was wondering if it is connected to electricity. Also, can the dish be taken to a Direct TV retailer to be recycled instead of just trashed?

It's not connected to electricity. You can remove the dish and dispose of it at any recycler. Or perhaps offer to give it away. Just be sure to leave the mounting plate attached to your roof to prevent leaks. Or seal it very well.

There are no DirecTV "retailers" that will take that stuff.

DirecTV and "Authoirzed Retailers" (DirecTV doesn't have physical locations of their own), do not recover or recycle anything installed beyond the boxes (which are shipped back upon deactivation or closing entire account).
Main part of dish can go with metal recycling, the LNB (the "eye") with electronics. Just depends whom near you does any kind of recycling.

It is possible and there could still be a 21 or 29 volt power inserter sending out dc power on the cables, however that poses no danger. They are sometimes mounted in an out of the way places such as a basement and may not get disconnected when a person removes the DirecTV receivers. It would be a small black or gray box with two coax ports and 1 or 2 coax cables connected as well as a power cord. Simply unplug it and disconnect it if you find it
