Online Chat
What's the point of having an online chat if the employees can't help? I spent almost an hour on the online chat to try and replace a replacement receiver I just received that doesn't work...only to have a supervisor, Samuel, tell me to call and abruptly end my chat.

HR2 is not a model number. H24 is not a DVR. Be it guidance or official support, being precise with the model number is very important as though there may be some that are similar, there are key differences that matter.
From what you've described, it sounds like you have an H R 2 4.
Verify the coax to both tuners are finger tight and that each cable is matched to the correct tuner.
Rerun satellite setup. Hopefully the settings for the non-SWM multiswitch and legacy dish and LNB are in there.
What are the EXACT model numbers of your other boxes? Remember H, HR, D, or R do matter. The reason I ask is that if you have any old MPEG-2 boxes, since DirecTV is shutting down those feeds, there would be an option to update your system to SWM without having to do it as an "upgrade". That would make it easier going forward, such as avoiding issues like you are experiencing.

Could be they have a SWM system and the coax is connected to the wrong port.

This is why I believe they are on the older system.

I suspect the HR24 is configured to use only one tuner.

Very possibly a setup/configuration error to get set back up correctly. Definitely only 1 of the tuners is working. I wonder if it was just something slightly misunderstood during the initial setup like the model number. If so, at least it should be an easy fix.
Even if it is the less likely issue of a bad replacement box, still is not "archaic". All DirecTV DVRs (even before HD) have 2 tuners to record and/or watch TV. None of their DVRs was ever designed to just record 1.

Juniper, it's an HR24. The HR2 and R24 were typos. I'm also having issues with Whole-Home. I see the recordings from the other two receivers and they see mine when I have No for share playlist
Litzdog, this is a replacement receiver. I had no recording issues on my last receiver. I had to replace it because it went dead. All I did was connect the cables that are already there.

Weird. Whole Home DVR doesn't work via coax with a non-SWM system. Perhaps all of the receivers are hard-wired via Ethernet to get WHDVR working. Please confirm your receiver models (including the HR24). If your HR24 only has one tuner going, follow these steps.
1. Go to Menu, Settings & Help, and Settings
2. Go to Satellite, Repeat Satellite Setup, and press the DASH (-) button. Under the Tuner section, be sure it is set to DUAL and NOT SINGLE. If the system reports an issue, check signal strength for both tuners and make sure they register as equal. If not, check the back of the HR24 for the presence of two coaxial cables plugged into SATELLITE IN 1 AND 2.

The model is an HR24-200. I have cables plugged into Satellite 1 and 2.

So read detuch54's post. Check to make sure the HR24 is set to dual tuners, I bet it isn't.

Texasbrit, it is set to dual tuners. I've done everything everyone suggested and still have the same problem.

This would all work much better with a Single Wire Multiswtich setup. Pre-SWM setups require a multiswitch to feed to each DVR/Receiver tuner. Do you know where your multiswitch is located? Are all of the cables properly connected? Also, for Whole Home DVR sharing, you would need the equipment connected with Cinema Connection Kits (CCKs). Do you have those? It'll be difficult to help you troubleshoot this without knowing exactly what equipment you have and how it's all connected. Upgrading to a SWM dish and setup might be the best solution.

If he has Whole Home DVR then he should already have SWM as that is required.
I am very confused as there are indications of having SWM yet not having SWM. Really need specifics about this setup.
I still suggest redoing satellite setup, making 100% sure if you have SWM or not for the correct settings, and that it does show set for the 2 tuners it is supposed to be.
If you don't have SWM but are trying to use your router to emulate Whole Home DVR, then that would be the problem. It was never intended for that. Meaning you need a tech out to update from the legacy multiswitch to SWM. That likely would be causing a tuner issue that the replacement box cannot get around.
At least we verified technical/setup issue and nothing archaic.

So, internet connection was messing with tuner allocation. This sounds like Whole Home interference when you don't have a proper SWM setup, never mind that you don't have a Genie in the first place (assuming since you didn't mention your other model numbers).
Glad it is working as missing a tuner from a DVR is certainly a headache.
Are all your boxes models that start HR? If so, are they all HR24s or do you have any other numbers in the mix?

I have no idea why it happened. The line is connected to a Dynex 5 port. Once I unplugged the internet, everything was fine. Which is no big deal for me, cause I never use the on demand. Two HR24 and an HR21
