R icon shows that it's recording a show but isn't
This for the legacy DirectTV dvr- Genie HD DVR
This has been happening with no rhyme or reason. I've reset my device and it's happened again.
Show has "R" in the menu and when it's live shows next to the name of show when selecting "info"- sometimes there are other shows recording at the same time but one is not (I have not exceeded # of shows that can record/watched at same time). Today it was the only show recording.
However, it is not recording, the solid orange line doesn't progress (halfway through the show it should have a thicker orange line on half the circle).
It's happen 3 times to 3 different shows.

Legacy DVR and Genie are different things. What is the exact model of all your boxes, and which one(s) are having the problem?
Have you tried any troubleshooting?
With this issue do you get any error message or other symptoms beyond what you've posted already?

I was differentiating between ATT's and DTV equip. It's a Genie. No errror message. It's not a matter of the show isn't "new." I see the circle R in the title while the show is airing, but it's not showing progress of the recording and never shows in the playlist. I've rebooted (unplugged DVR) and ran diagnostics... still happens.

What is the model of your "Genie"? (there are various models of Genies and Mini Genie Clients)
AT&T has not created new equipment for DirecTV (yet, and so far nothing new on the radar), as boxes to date were released (or in testing) before AT&T acquired them.
Was the "unplugged" the power and for over a minute? (each box?)
Have you gone into the to-do list and cleared recordings and then set them up again manually in the guide? There was an update a while back that affected recordings already scheduled, but once setup fresh the issue didn't occur again (I'm guessing that update caused a coding mismatch of something between existing schedule and updated guide info). Just something to try if this is a similar cause to what you're experiencing.

I've recently had the same issue and my DVR and Genie are both new as of 6 weeks ago. The program has the R showing when I check the guide, but is not actively recording. The program is set to "record all" so it should capture at the same time every week. This isn't the case with all programs set to record - - - just certain ones for some reason.

Hence my request for "history". Just because you set a program to record does not mean it will record through a series link. Programs that are "duplicates" (defined as having been recorded within the previous 30 days, even if they are not still on the disk) will not be recorded. Also programs that are different from the one the DVR is expecting will not be recorded. If you post back and tell me what "history" shows I can confirm what happened.

The shows missing are not duplicates, but are daily series at a specific time slot each day. The "history" says the show in the time slot we wanted to record last night (9-10 p.m.) was "canceled because it did not meet the show type settings or has already been recorded". When we checked the list there were no other recordings of that program and there is no "show type" set.

Texas brit- no, it's not that it's recording at another time (same episode). I caught this issue because I was live on the show that was being recorded (but not). If I choose "info" it shows the circle R in the title header- with no progress.
Tallbill- sounds like you're having the same issue.
Juniper- It sounds like your explanation could be the one. It just started happening within last 2-3 weeks that I know of.
I deleted one of the shows on the series manager and I'll see if it records next week. As there really hasn't been consistency of what records and what doesn't... I sure hope I don't have to reset all the shows!

That message shows the DVR thinks it has already recorded the program OR the metadata for the program is wrong - the situation I described.
What show was it?

It was an MSNBC program that is on every night at the same time. It recorded each night without fail until this week. We've had the same issue with a CBS nightly program, too. There were no other recordings of that night's show. Since we missed it we set the same show at a later time slot and it recorded with no problem.

The two shows I knew this was happening for I deleted from Series Mgr and re-added. That has worked so far.For the person that asked... the shows that didn't tape DID show in the history as taped.
I now have a different issue... fast forward and rewind are not working on recorded shows nor live tv.
Someone else has the same issue & posted today so I bolted on.
I think the issue is the DVR memory SSD memory can go bad just like a normal Harddrive. But that's just putting on my IT hat. I tried calling support at the published phone # 1800-228-2020. I navigate the menu as an existing customer (press1) and support (7) to only get the message "We're an authorized reseller and can't assist you. If you want us to connect you to your provider- Press 1"- to which I get the SAME message- We're an authorized reseller.. blah blah. Nice support (Edited per community guidelines) loop they got there.
This in the info I get going through the main ATT page (yes I merged my accounts).
Anyone have a different #??

To my knowledge all DirecTV DVRs have a traditional HDD, not SSD.
228 is not the correct number but 288. But that is for the AT&T side still, so I would use the DirecTV one to avoid additional transfers. I have them both listed in my signature for reference.
