Receiver internet problems

Ok first off, I’m a retired electrician so I know about abut wiring, second I’ll been dealing with computers and satellite TVs for years also. Now here’s me problem. Directv says that you can connect to your receiver an HR54-500 using their DTV app. You can watch recorded items when not at home. Also record items when away. Of course you need to have it connected to the internet which they give you instructions on how to do that. My problem is it doesn’t work. I’ve connected my receiver to the internet several times, each time it shows my receiver is connected to the internet and WIFI. Yet when I go to my account and look at equipment management it shows I’m not connected to the internet. I’ve called DTV and they run me through the connection routine and when it says I’m connected they say I’m connected and of course they’re wrong. One point they said it’s my internet service Astound and I should contact them ( which I did and they acted as if I was crazy and said they had nothing to do with my TV problems). My wife and I just got back from a 1200 mile trip to SoCal. Which she wanted to watch some of her shows. Of course it said it could not find our receiver. Other problem is DTV does not stream local channels. They told me local channels will not allow it? I just switched from Dish which allowed all the channels I had to be streamed. I know others are having these problems and would like to know if anyone has gotten the problems resolved and how? I’m going to a RV trip in two months and would like to have this problem solved. More or less HELP!!!!

Hello, we hate to hear you're having issues while connecting your receiver to your internet. This is not the experience you deserve as the valuable customer you are. Rest assured, we're here to help. To confirm this process, please check the article below and keep us updated on how it goes https://www.directv.com/support/satellite/article/KM1046528/

Regarding the local channels situation, you can visit TVpromise.com, and verify with your Zip Code if this is due to channel negotiations. Kindly note that we've been working with the broadcasters who own these local channels to reach an agreement. Your patience is highly appreciated. Andres, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Streaming recordings out-of-home was discontinued a few years ago.

With the HR44 and HR54 they have MobileDVR allowing you to temporarily copy (30 days) recordings to a mobile device (smart phone/tablet). However the new all-in-one app (for both DirecTV and DIRECTV STREAM) still has a lot of bugs to work out.

Depends on the local station if out-of-area streaming is supported and through what methods. I do wish that was a bit more consistant accross the board.

i AM AN 80 YEAR OLD sc dav  with few , if any, electrical equipment management skills.  I( have been unable to reconnect my Direct TV box to my internet receiver for several months now.  It USED TO WORK JUST FINE !! until a few months ago when I began to have problems buying pay per view movies using my remote.  I was able to use the remote for 11 years in the past to purchase movies.  To day I finally have HAD IT !!

I called and talked to several people in Customer service, kept getting switched, and twice was hung up on....did I mention I am 80 years old ?? have trouble hearing on a phone and can barley see any more. I can not figure out how to reconnect their equipment myself, so  I requested that a technician be sent over to see what the problem is.  I was told that if I wanted the help of one that I would have to pay for a "support help program" at an additional charge to my account of $8.99 PER MONTH or pay a one time charge of $99.00 ...EXTORTION !!   I have no choice at this point but to give in to the extortion if I ever want to be able to download any movies or programs in the future.  A tech is supposed to come over today within the next 6 hours and reconnect their "box".  I will let you know if he shows up and if he does the job.

That's directvs standard service call charge, and it's not extortion, have you had a service call for a plumber or electrician recently?

You own everything but the receivers which is why DTV charges for service calls. Having to pay $99 after 11 years of no problems seems fair to me.

@Mayfieldfamily3

What receiver models do you have? If you haven’t had anything going on in 11 yrs, I’d expect the equipment to be HR34 or older.
