Returning equipment after canceling

I called to cancel my Directv on January 14th and the lady said I would have to wait for an email telling me how to send back the equipment. I just got the email today (February 5) and it says that they will be sending a prepaid box to send it back to them in the next seven days. Directly under that is their equipment return policy which states that if I don’t return the equipment within 21 days of my cancellation call, I will be charged a fee! It is literally impossible for me to meet the deadline and it is Directv’s fault! Any suggestions on how to handle this farce?

What are the model numbers? If returnable you take them to a UPS/FedEx store to scan them in and keep the receipt.  If you are billed the ECF/ETF it will be credited back when they are received back if they are mailed back by USPS.

Get a comfortable chair - call customer service and ask for the retention department. Explain what the CS person told you - that you followed their direction and ask how your supposed to return something before the tell you how/when and before you get a box. Do not wait until after they bill you for the equipment.

as far as equipment is concerned as 'Shannon said post your model numbers here so someone can tell you If they need to be returned - many older models do not.
Generally returns are handled by FedEx or UPS participating facilities. You simply being your box to one is them and they will pack and ship it back.  Be sure to keep good records of the model #’s and receipt from the shipper.

Sending a prepaid return box is the old process. It has been noted recently that many of their emails about returning equipment are general info that may not be specific to your account and equipment.

What are the models of each box you have? Lets verify if returnable in the first place. If any are, then here is the current return process.

How To Return The Equipment

Go to a FedEx or UPS location with your account #. No need to bring a box or label, the equipment will be boxed it up & shipped out at no charge. The process takes less than 5 minutes.

Now if you are over 10 miles from a participating location, then you call DirecTV to request the return kit. But again, only if any of the boxes are returnable.
