service cuts out briefly and stops DVR from recording
HD DVR, Model HR23-700
lately been having issues that service cuts out briefly and stops the DVR from recording. this evening it happened 8 times when i tried to record a program while watching 1 other show and while watching the show I am recording. even when I stopped recording, service cut out. doesn't matter the channel. no error message displays.
any thoughts?
I am doing a reset now, pressing the red button. it takes almost 1/2 hour for it to complete. reset didn't fix the issue. still happening.

@Juniper just to be sure.... and since I pay for protection monthly, I should stand firm on a replacement and not an upgrade since my hard drive appears to be failing. do I have that right? you've guided me before.

The problem is DTV may not have anything but a Genie to replace it with.

@shannon02 @Juniper
my hard drive in the receiver is definitely going. is Genie HR54 considered a HDDVR? want to make sure I have my info right before calling DTV for a replacement for my 15 or so old receiver.

middle of tech placing replacement order, i've lost all programming. not fun. resetting does nothing. even logging into DTV site says it can't access my programming. waiting 30 mins so far for supervisor to call. :(

Sounds like they canceled your account, DTV rarely calls back.

Not quite unfortunately.
HR20 thru HR24 are regular HDDVRs. They have 2 tuners and are built as standalone.
HR34, HR44, HR54 (or revised HR54R1) are the Genie. Those are the Advanced Whole Home HDDVR. Model number follows similar structure since it is initially an HDDVR. But with 5 tuners and built as as a server to manage Clients, it is a different model line from the regular HDDVRs.
That being said, DirecTV hasn't made regular HDDVRs in years. Even the HR24 is hard to come by. I don't know if that means that they will be permitting the Genie as a warranty replacement going forward.
So normally HR54 (Genie) cannot warranty replace HR23 (regular HDDVR) and would be an upgrade option instead. But with regular HDDVRs going the way of the Dodo, we shall see.
