Standard destructions for programming RC71 for TV doesn't work.
Greets— Pressing mute/select gets 3 fast flashes. Pressing any number gets two slow flashes. Then control box switches to channel number pressed. Can't seem to get remote into programming mode. Destructions say should get single flash for each number pressed in programming mode. Advice, suggestions, comments?

Press mute and ENTER not select , hold mute and ENTER until you get a message that your remote is now setup for RF, then you can program the tv. Enter is under the number 9

Sounds like your instructions (not destructions) might be for the older RC6X series (white universal remote) or you are confusing ENTER and SELECT.
Make sure you are checking for your exact model.
