Stuck on Checking Satellite Settings
I just had my dish reinstalled after a roof replacement. After the tech reset my HR-44 box, it is stuck on Step 1 of 2: Checking Satellite Settings". The tech advised that the box was bad and needed to be replaced. I refuse to believe that the box, which was fully operational four days ago before the roof was replaced (and in fact allowed me to watch already recorded shows while the dish was disconnected up to moments before the techs arrived) died at the same moment that they reinstalled the dish.
At this point I really want a way to at the very least access my recorded list. I was able to enter CUI-1 Utilities and run an HDD SMART long test (which passed) but I can't access any other screen.
Does anyone know a way to bypass the self check and just access the recording lists, even if live tv won't work for now? Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

You may refuse to believe it, but it is a real possibility. Tech is not infallible, so possible the roof work caused an issue down the line into the box.
Verify coax is secure and unplug power for a minute. Then see what happens.
If that tech that reinstalled the dish was from a DirecTV order, then callback and submit a complaint on the tech and get another one out for incomplete work. However if it was some other tech, such as related to roof workers, then they are not instructed in proper dish placement and connections, so should have talked to DirecTV in the first place.

Thanks for your response. When I say that I refuse to believe it, I mean that it would be a huge coincidence that the box which was fully operational would suddenly die while the techs were here. All they had to do was place the dish on the roof. They were DirecTV techs.
My real question and concern at this point is accessing the previously recorded shows. Given that I was watching a previously recorded show when the techs arrived, and the hdd long test passed, it seems that the shows should still be on the box. So the question is how do I bypass the checking satellite settings screen and access my recordings list.

Roof work can damage the dish, misalign the dish, or even loosen connections. May be visually minor enough to go unnoticed by the workers (if they didn't ignore on purpose). With that if a problem goes down the line, it may cause issue for the box itself. So those are not uncommon, but I agree box going out for an unrelated reason at the same time would be a lower chance.
So most likely the issue is somewhere in the connection between the dish and box, or an alignment problem so not getting all the data it needs.
You cannot bypass the checking satellite settings to access recordings. It is built to prevent that. The box must verify service is authorized before you can use your recordings.
