Tech appointment
We are having issues with the satellite and we’re told we can’t get a tech appointment for 12 days. That seems like a really long time to wait for someone to come out.

I’m not too surprised. There are shortages of DIRECTV technicians. This would be due to emergencies, technicians getting stuck in prior jobs, etc.
What exact ‘issues’ are you having with the satellite dish? Any error code (s) or specific issues with receivers? Or, is the dish simply out of alignment? We may be able to assist you further.

Error 775. I have reset the Genie and all boxes. It is apparently a connection to the satellite. I’ve spent over 2 hours on the phone with some very nice people and done all of their troubleshooting but they say someone needs to look at the dish. Clear weather, no storms.

Sorry that the wait is so long before you can get a tech to you. You do have some options though as you wait for a tech to arrive. I would definitely ask Directv to give you credit for the time that you are not able to watch tv and you could always try to stream during this downtime by watching on Directv.com on a computer or using the Directv app on a phone/tablet. Hope this helps you.

Error 775 means power is not getting to the SWM LNB. What are the receiver models specifically? Do you happen to have a gray or black SWM box plugged in properly? The green light should be showing. Do you know of anything that could have caused error 775 or did it randomly pop up at one point?

775 is most commonly caused by a bad coax cable connection somewhere between the receiver and the dish. Another common cause is the swm power inserter has lost power. If you have a swim power inserter check to make sure the light is on. While you there check the coax connections. Unscrew them make sure the center conductor is extended a little bit past the edge of the screw on nut. Make sure there is no burnt or corrosion inside. And then reconnect it use a wrench or pair of pliers to tighten it just slightly more than finger tight. And then if you have access to outside connections also check those connections in the same way. Also check to see if there's any visible damage to the coax cable such as being hit by a machine or chewed on by rodents. 775 error is not caused by misaligned dish.

That's a really good overview from good4u. In 99% of cases this is just a coax connector issue. It can be a problem with the LNB at the dish but this is very rare.
