The HR54, in the Settings can the WIFI be turned off?

Going to get service again. My net is slow so online TV watching is terrible.

The HR54 model, for anyone that has it, can the WIFI actually be switched off? Also, is the remote a standard IR remote?

thanks so much in advance, wanting basic, low tech on this.

Unless you specifically setup Networking on your HR54, it won't connect to any network.

Yes, the RC73 remote is both IR and RF.

I sure so appreciate the reply! I want no WIFI, we don't do anything like that here, no cell phones, etc.

The WiFi connection to your router is not automatic. You have to set it up. However, I am unsure if the wireless signal itself is turned off or simply stays waiting for setup.

I prefer hard wired for any home devices. My phone I might turn on WiFi at home if I have updates to catch up on, as the speed from home internet is much faster than the cellular signal. But I don't keep it on as don't want to drain my battery that much faster, so turn off when done.

Thanks, I can test it with some testers, I just hate signing up and finding out it stays on all the time.

Well in general it is no more intrusive than the wireless signal coming down to the dish in the first place. Only concern I would have is for a household with multiple WiFi signals that fight each other if not optimized. But it will not use your home bandwidth unless you allow it.
