There's a problem communicating with the satellite dish (775) code HR44 Genie

I purchased a new Web os tv and swapped the input cables from the old tv to the new tv. Now I get the error "There's a problem communicating with the satellite dish (775)". I've runs tests and it says it can't connect to SWM. I've changed HDMI cables, unplugged the SWM for 2 minutes, and nothing changes. I can't get a satellite signal.

I plug everything back into the old tv and everything works fine! The older TV is just a regular 16x9 flat screen, and about 12 years old. The new tv is an LG UHD webOS Model 65UN69 TV, that supports 4k. The Directv cable box is HR44 Genie with 2 minis.

Would anyone know why the box works fine on the older tv, and not the new tv? Would I need a new SWM, because it can't support this new tv?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Steve

So the newer TV doesn't have a ground connection on its AC plug. Typically, that's not an issue. But in older homes/apartments with older AC wiring, it might be. How old is your place?

Is your SWM Power Inserter (Power Supply) powered by the same AC outlet as the TV? Can you try a different outlet on a different AC circuit?

OK, well your home's wiring should be OK if it was built in 1997. Can you try powering the SWM Power Inserter from a different AC circuit?

I left the old tv on when I unplugged the SWM. When I plugged it into the extension cable from the other room, I had to turn off the HR44 because the image was frozen. After a quick off and turning back on, the picture was great, so I unplugged the HDMI cable while the old tv was running perfect...and put the HDMI directly into the new tv and got the satellite connection issue/error.

Make sure the DirecTV box is not plugged into a "smart" power strip or surged protector. Those "smart" ones tend not to work well with the equipment. If that new TV has HDMI-CEC, I would make sure it is turned off. Just a couple things to try to verify your DirecTV equipment is not getting messed by other devices trying to be "helpful".

Before you run out and return that new TV, do you have another TV you can use as a test? Maybe borrow a friend/neighbor's TV?

Or better yet take one of those TVs that you are using on your Genie clients and test with that.

Have you noticed if the power inserter's power light is remaining on?

So, I tried plugging the new tv directly into the wall outlet and still get the error. I even reset the HR44. I've already tried using another tv that I've been calling "the old tv", and never have any issues. It works fine! It's just a smaller older one that I was going to put in the guest room...which is why I bought the new tv. I do have a smaller "smart" tv in another room I can try. I'll do that next. Thanks for trying guys!

Okay I think I finally found the issue (with the help from folks here with all their suggestions), but don't know how to fix it!

After trying everything possible & using 3 tvs, here's what happens...

The new tv is an LG webOS or "smart tv" that won't connect to the Directv HR44 Genie satellite. It is has a 2-prong plug. No matter where or what I plug it in to, it never sees the satellite (code 775).

The old (12-14 years) Samsung tv that IS NOT a "smart tv" will always connect flawlessly, no matter what's plugged into or out of it. This was the tv I wanted to replace, with the new tv. It has a 3-prong power cord.

Lastly, the 3rd older spare room Vizeo "smart tv" did not get a satellite connection (like the LG), and gave me the 775 error code. This tv has a 2-prong plug.

After getting the error message from the last tv, I unplugged the HDMI cable (like I tested the 1st tv) directly into the older Samsung and everything worked like it always does!

So here's the facts....

01 LG TV is a "smart tv" 2-prong power cord. (NO SATELLITE)

02 Samsung TV IS NOT a "smart tv" 2-prong power cord (WORKS)

03 Vizeo TV is a "smart tv" 2-prong power cord. (NO SATELLITE)

The two "smart" tvs both have 2-prong power cords and are considered "smart" or "webOS".

Neither one will find a satellite connection. The SWM inserter can be plugged into a surge protector, current wall outlet, or across the room wall outlet. HDMI or RGB component cables have all be tried, switched, and swapped with no change. Neither smart tv works and the non-smart tv always works.

Here's the question I have now after trying everything. Is it that the HR44 receiver won't work with a "smart" tv, or because they are 2-prong plugs....

And with that in mind, what the heck is the fix?

If it's truly an issue with the 2-prong AC plugs, then something is goofy with your home's AC electrical wiring. This is truly a unique issue that I've never seen before. Do you happen to have an uninterruptable power supply (UPS), or portable 120VAC power pack? I wonder what would happen if you powered the TV and/or SWM Power Inserter from a totally independent AC power supply. You said earlier that you tried an extension cord from a different room .... Are you sure that room is on a different AC circuit breaker?

Yes, I just double checked with breaker box and it definitely was on a different breaker. I have a generator for winter power outages but I'm not going to go in that direction. I just bought a tv that I was going to upgrade, so I could put a better tv in the guest room. I agree that this shit's crazy, and at this point almost totally over it. At least I have 2 common denominators....2-prong plugs and smart tvs!! I've been beating on this for almost 2 days, and still get the exact same results! At this point, since nobody has an aha moment with those 2 facts, I'm now thinking maybe a new SWM or cable box...but I finally have an affordable Directv bill, because I have an older box. It's not worth paying triple for a receiver upgrade, just yet.
