Upgrade Directv Receiver

How do I upgrade my old directv receiver?

We have Directv.  We just bought a new tv, and the installers told us Directv would send us a new receiver, since the old one was made in about 2008.  (D12-100).  I cannot see how to do this on the website, and we can't get through on the phone.

Anything you can do to help would be appreciated.

Your old D12 is now considered obsolete. You should be eligible for a free upgrade to HiDef equipment. Not sure why you can't get through on the phone. See the DirecTV number in my signature below.

The D12 is obsolete,  you have to call to get the swap offer.

We just bought a new tv, and the installers told us Directv would send us a new receiver,

Um whoever was installing your new TV doesn't work for DirecTV so has no clue how they work. That would be like having a new computer installed and being told your internet company would auto send you a new Modem.

The D12 is the last MPEG-2/SD-only box made. They have been obsolete for years. DirecTV is in the process of shutting down their MPEG-2 feeds so that must be replaced.

You have to call DirecTV and request a MPEG swap. DirecTV doesn't automatically send you equipment. They It is not simply a matter of shipping a box, but they have to send a tech out to install a new dish and any cabling updates needed. As long as this is a MPEG swap, not an upgrade order, there is no 24-month agreement as is required to continue using the service.

Is that your only box? If not, what are the models of all your other ones?

Call DirecTV and request the MPEG swap. But before doing so, verify all your model numbers here in the forum so you make sure you don't get a bad order.

Was it the person who installed your TV was trying to speak for another company, or did you have a separate install from DirecTV for something else? Just confused why you were expecting an order for DirecTV from a non-DirecTV employee.
