I want a tv 14-18" that can be controlled by Gemini Air remote

My wife insists on using channel numbers, so I don't have much choice for streaming besides Directv Gemini Air.  She wants a TV for the kitchen in the 14" to 17" range.  I keep getting the runaround from various AI (Use Samsung, they don't make that size, Use this, it doesn't support HDMI-CEC) and basically the all keep regurgitating nonsense.

Does anyone know of a device, TV or Monitor, that will do this?  I need power and sound to be controlled by the Gemini remote?

Only reply if you have a setup that works.  I don't need any more "Well, try this!"

Gemini Air is compatible with any HD and 4K TVs with HDMI 2.1 & 1.4, @ravenrgg. Learn more here: Gemini_Air_user_guide.pdf Rhyan, DIRECTV Community Team

Why Not use a Tablet instead of a "TV" Hook the Gemini to the HDMI port and you have Channel numbers.

📺 1. Use a tablet like a TV screen You can watch shows directly on the tablet itself. ✅ How it works: Install streaming apps like Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, or live TV apps Watch shows, movies, or live channels right on the screen ✅ Why people do this: Portable — you can watch anywhere Tablets support a wide range of streaming services and TV apps thestreamable You can even watch live TV channels through apps or services cordcutting 👉 This is the simplest option — your tablet basically becomes a small personal TV. 📺 2. Replace a TV (kind of) A larger tablet (10–16 inches) can act like a mini TV. ✅ Benefits: Easy to move room to room Good personal viewing experience Supports all major streaming apps meswao ⚠️ Limitation: Smaller than a real TV Not ideal for watching with a group 📺

to use HDMI on a Tablet You will need an adapter

🔌 1. USB‑C port (modern tablets)

  • Most newer tablets have USB‑C
  • You can use a USB‑C → HDMI adapter
  • Works if the tablet supports video output [nexttools.net]

➡️ This is the most common way today

Will this also allow control of power and volume?  She can't deal with anything more complicated.

Yes, it will! Here's how you can program a Gemini remote to control TV functions such as power and volume:

1. Choose Settings and then System.
2. Select Remote & Devices, then Program Your Remote.
3. Choose the TV manufacturer you want to add.
4. Follow the prompts to finish up.

To @DIRECTVhelp DirecTVhelp - the procedure described in your link does not work.  I press FF RW and the remote begins to flash the two blue LEDs.  Then Gemini announces it had adapted to the remote, then power and volume STILL don't work.

I purchased a new TV based on your advice.  The TV is a Jexiop TV 17.  I expect you to make this work.

We appreciate you following the pairing steps we shared. When you went through that process, did the brand of your TV show up as an option that you could select to manually program the remote? If it didn’t appear, please keep in mind that not all TV models or speaker systems are compatible with our remote. If the TV cannot be programmed with the Gemini remote, you will need to use your TV's original remote control to turn the power ON/OFF, adjust the volume, and select inputs. @DIRECTVhelp The brand does not show up. I specifically asked if it would work. I explained that using the TV remote for power and volume was unacceptable to my wife. You said everything would work.  You didn't have any doubt. Make it work.

We apologize that this solution doesn't meet your expectations. DIRECTV always works to expand device compatibility across various brands. Right now, the only way to manage the power and volume for this model is through your TV's original remote. We appreciate your patience and feedback as we work to improve our software. @DIRECTVhelp Don't make blanket statement if you don't know. I spent an hour setting up the TV after purchasing it specifically on your assurances it would work.

@ravenrgg you never mentioned the brand in your original post.

@Ludwick577 I wanted someone to tell me which brand would work.  I hadn't bought anything yet.  No one said, "I hooked this up and it worked".  They just kept saying Oh, this should work without checking.

Don't you have a Gemini device? You can look in settings--remote/device---program your tv------then plug in the brand name of the tv you are interested in to see if it's listed in there.

@ravenrgg

There is no guarantee that a Gemini Air, or any other similar device, can control the power/volume of every single TV out there. That is impossible. With so many in existence, it would be unfeasible to list every single possible TV that could work.

To avoid similar issues in the future, it would be best to list the make/model of any specific TVs you are looking at. Then that can be checked against the vast list of compatibility.

You can also go into the settings of your current device and see if the TV band is listed. Good thing to check before making a purchase.

I purchased a new TV based on your advice.  The TV is a Jexiop TV 17.  I expect you to make this work.

Unfortunately, your expectation is not how it works. DirecTV or any other provider will not drop everything to program in a new TV into their global compatibility. Yes the guidance provided was overconfident, but that doesn't change what the options are.

Before deciding on a replacement TV, narrow down the options of what you and your wife like. Then share what those specific TVs are and more precise answers can be given. Be aware, that even when a brand is listed that doesn't guarantee every model under that brand. Sometimes they can have the odd model out.

So even if I check it still might not work.  Got it.
