Incorrect Florida Communication Services Tax being charged
While I don't believe there is a criminal intent to defraud Florida citizens, I would like to bring to your attention that ATT U-verse has been charging me a Communication Service Tax at an incorrect rate.
I have made efforts to make ATT U-verse aware of the problem.
My address, one of hundreds of addresses that had changed due to St Lucie / Martin county, change of boundary SB800 legislation July 1, 2013, and is most likely a problem for ATT U-Verse.
Communication Service Tax rates are determined by address jurisdiction information provided by the State of Florida. This information is correct. My tax rate is 1.84%, Unincorporated Martin County. It seems that ATT is charging me the City of Stuart tax rate of 5.22%.
The State of Florida gives ATT U-verse an allowance of .75% to collect these taxes without error. From my point of view, there are errors and no way to make ATT U-verse aware of these errors.
I challenge everyone to call their TV or Phone provider and ask the tax rate and how Communication Service Taxes are calculated on their bill. The most likely answer you will get is the state tells us how much to charge and therefore your bill is correct.

@parmstrong Click the ATT Customer Care link in my signature, send the PM, explain your incorrect FL tax rate situation.
Include your name, account #, email address and a good phone # (land or cell) and time to contact you on.
Check the blue PM envelope, upper right on every page, for their reply. Good luck 😉

This is follow up to let everyone know ATT UVerse billing of Communication Service Tax has been corrected on my bill. Once I found the corporate office phone number, called, explained the problem. They were quick to follow up and correct the problem.

Well, it's been a little over a year.
The wife got a new phone and I got my first bill with this phone from AT&T, guess what?
The new phone now has a line item of "11. County Surtax" which looks to be about .30% the rate of St. Lucie County.
My phone does not have this line item, same account. Which I have been assuming because Martin County does not have Surtax.
Both counties have the same rate of 1.840 % for Communication Service tax.
I will contact AT&T and make the effort to have this corrected and keep you informed.
Again, this is minor amount of money not worth the effort of complaining but, I wonder how many consumers are being ripped-off while AT&T is being rewarded to collect these taxes.
