DVR keeps deleting Jeopardy schedule

Since replacing the DVR and rebuilding all of my scheduled recordings (you'd think that a megabig corporation like AT&T could provide some sort of export/import for when this has to be done but nooooooooooo), I keep adding Jeopardy to the schedule and it keeps disappearing from the schedule! No problems with other scheduled programs.

Any help on why this might be happening with a new DVR?

Why would you have to reschedule your recordings when those stay intact with a new DVR? Yes, you lose your recordings when replacing the DVR, but your scheduling remains unchanged.

I literally just got a new DVR earlier this week (3rd in 11 years) and my scheduled programs have continued to record as before.

As skeeter says, reloading your schedule after a DVR replacement is not a thing. The schedule is backed up in the cloud. Maybe someone is messing with you?

Yes, y'all are correct. I mixed up the scheduling issue with the recorded shows on the DVR transfer.

Still the same point remains. Jeopardy disappeared from the schedule, I re-added it. It again disappeared from the schedule. I took a photo of the TV showing it was there and then it disappeared again. I have again re-added it last night.

I am reasonably sure that I scheduled the series, not the a single show. I definitely, 100% made sure that I scheduled the SERIES last night. So let's see what happens now.

Recorded successfully Friday. Let's see what happens on Monday.

Jeopardy disappeared again from the scheduled series to record on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. A closer examination shows that it reappears as of this coming Thursday (May 28th) with the notation "Teacher's Tournament"), which actually started on Monday!

I have the series selected to record only "first run" episodes. I tried changing this to "First run and repeats" and then restarted the set top box but Jeopardy still doe snot show up.

So what is the problem and how do you get it fixed?

Volunteers here have ZERO power to fix anything and calling the call center in the Philippines or India certainly isn't going to help. (Edited per community guidelines), they probably won't even be able to understand what I am talking about, let alone help, since their toolbox seems to be limited to restarting the system or ordering a new piece of hardware.

AT&T should split off and sell the content management side of this business because they are clueless about how to make it work correctly. They should focus on what they know best, the wires (virtual and real) that deliver internet content. Anything more than that is clearly outside their expertise.

So where do I go to get some help to fix this issue given that this forum is not the right place?

The problem is when the network or AT&T programs in the wrong information for the guide. it happens often and is really annoying. There is no way to tell if it's abc(or whatever channel jeopardy is on for you) or at&t's fault. but its an ancient outdated system. Also another problem is the system doesn't have push updates, but instead the dvr checks in and redownloads guide maybe once a day. So often if there is a last minute change uverse misses the change.

Jeopardy has been running repeats due to covid-19. You probably have jeopardy scheduled to only record new episodes.

@madmax988 - No it has not.  Jeopardy shows have been new.  This is the problem with the internet.  Anyone can post anything, verified or not.  Sheese.

They reran the greatest of all time and some of Ken Jennings episodes before going to New teachers tournament which ended this week and they now are officially out of new episodes they had previously recorded.

I'm just another unhappy at&t customer don't blame me for trying to help you.

Not blaming you for trying to help but you/everyone shouldn't post if you aren't 100% certain that your info is correct.

I watch Jeopardy every night and all the shows since the Teachers tournament have been new.  There's a text blurb on the screen at the start of each show that says it is new and Trebeck states the same in voice over.

Jeopardy normally films 2-3 months in advance so the question right now is if they have enough shows in the can to last until the normal 7/31 season end of the new shows.

After reading through your various posts, I'm unclear as to exactly what is happening.  Could you tell me which of these it is?

  1. You create a series recording, and the series recording definition is deleted?
  2. You create scheduled recordings for individual programs, and the individual scheduled recordings are deleted?
  3. You create a series recording, see the indication on an individual program that it will be recorded, but then later that indicator goes away and/or the program doesn't record?
  4. Something else?

I had the problem where all my recordings disappeared.  I stayed on phone with Uverse tech for about an hour as we went through a couple of troubleshooting and restore process and finally the recordings did reappear after a 'software reboot'.  I forgot where the tech said the recordings are stored.   However the problem happened again about two weeks later..all recordings gone.  After going through the trouble shooting procedures again, this Uverse tech was unable to restore the recordings and finally said my DVR needed to be replaced which they did...however they did not restore the recordings.   (With the pandemic, I decided I did not watch most of them anyway so I am starting anew)

@forumissues  Apparently, your DVR was on the fritz and your recordings just were not visible on the DVR.

If recordings are actually deleted for whatever reason, they cannot be retrieved.  Also, recordings are gone if your DVR is replaced.  Scheduling remains but not recordings.

@forumissues - Comcast's DVR software has a trash bin, so you can restore a recording mistakenly deleted, which seems like reasonable functionality to apply anywhere that something could be deleted.

Losing recorded shows when a DVR needs to be replaced is really annoying.  Providers should offer an export/import function.

We know the boxes running the DVR software are generally on Linux software.  Shouldn't be that hard to allow the shows to be exported.

Its incredibly easy to offer a recyling bin and transferring abilities.  It's not accidental that att doesn't offer them.  At&t is far more worried about copyright protection than customer satisfaction.  They are terrified of pirates.

Also as a side note.  The uverse boxes don't run Linux.  Then run windows CE 5.0 OS which was a mobile(think palm pilot/pocketpc/pda)OS discontinued in 2004 by Microsoft.  It then in turn runs erickson mediaroom software.  You can see this information in the system.

So to say its ancient in terms of technology is an understatement.

Windows CE 5.0?  Whew!  No wonder the UI on these boxes (Edited per community guidelines).   But AT&T had years to convert & upgrade the boxes, which they apparently refused to do.  It's a shame that a government agency couldn't have forced AT&T to upgrade their boxes when an OS gets discontinued, if for no other reason than potential security issues.

It is what it is and my understanding is that U-verse is dead anyway so only a matter of time I would think until AT&T forces people off of U-verse because there aren't enough customers left on the system to justify maintaining it.

And speaking of poor software, how about this forum software?  I wonder how much money changed hands under the table to select this travesty show?  The software seems more focused on awarding badges to posters than making a thread easy to start, follow or reply to.

It also seems unable to remember my logon and forces me to reenter the logon info every time I post here (running  Chrome browser).

@Janice_1952 are you setting it to record using the dvr or set top box or are you using a computer or mobile phone to set it?

If you are using dvr/stb I don't see how what's happening is possible because when you set a series recording you have to choose the specific channel you want to series record on.  It's not smart enough to find the same show on a different channel itself.

If you are setting it on computer/phone it could be some weird bug.

@Janice_1952 , my solution for your issue is to periodically reboot the DVR, at least once every fortnight, if not every week.  Just pick a time each week when you're not recording anything and hold the power button in for 10 seconds until it starts blinking.   Yes, I've seen it happen.  No it shouldn't happen.
