Green link light on wired receiver finally but...
Hi there
lets see if I can get some help. I seem to be having the same problem with my tv and wired receiver. I have a gear on screen with no update status bar and then I get a red X. I am on my third replacement of my wired receiver, so I am hoping not to have to replace it again. I have done soft reboot, hard reboot etc etc etc. it’s getting frustrating.
okay, so something amazing happened last night. My wired receiver got its green link light on (steady on). I guess that’s good. I’m still getting nowhere. Any suggestions would be great. I really would like to get rid of the gear and red X (no numbers) and get the gear with the status bar.
by the way...why do people suggest “make sure your Ethernet cable is plugged into the receiver to the wall”???? Mine goes from tv to modem/gateway and I have a green data cord from gateway to wall. Also, have a WAP little thing with an Ethernet cable too to the gateway. Crazy!

Your gateway's broadband lights (you have two of them?) are blinking?
Is your internet working?
You should have an HDMI cable going from the TV to the TV Receiver. You likely have an Ethernet cable from the wired TV Receiver to a yellow port on the Gateway. Is this correct?

You have a cable from the TV to the modem/gateway? So... how does your TV Receiver fit in to that?

Because “people” know what they’re talking about. If you’ve read those instructions, follow them. To the letter. Using Uverse hardware is not like playing with lego blocks you can mix and match to create something functional.
Also, even once the settop box has been recovered using the prescribed method, setting it up for wireless use has a physical and distance limitation.

No I do not accept that answer. My wired receiver has red light and green link light blinking and gateway has both broadband lights blinking green and sometimes I get a green blinking service light. No service forever...waiting and waiting and waiting for something to get fixed and this is nothing a technician can fix inside it’s all about the digging that they can’t seem to complete. Several broken promises have been made for when the dig will be complete. ..very frustrated.

I’m just trying to get lights steady. I will wait patiently. Thanks for trying to help.

The small WAP (wireless access point) is how your wireless receiver "talks" to the large gateway which is essentially what U-Verse uses as a modem.
The signal comes in to the modem. From there, it gets divided into internet and TV (plus U-Verse phone if you have that.)
Ethernet cable looks like a phone cable.
Coax cable is black and circular.
From the gateway:
One ethernet cable to the WAP, which is ideally at least 3-4 feet away from the gateway. If the wireless receiver is too far from the WAP, it won't work right. Remember how cordless phones had to be so close to the base for them to work? It's a similar situation.
From the gateway (modem) to your DVR, you have a few options. Ethernet or coax. Coax will work, but people who use ethernet swear it's better.
From the DVR to the TV, you have HDMI which is one big thick cable or component which is five smaller ones with various colors of plugs. Both of these are HD. Sometimes HDMI can be "finnicky" and so the suggestion there is to use component.
You cannot plug any TV directly into the gateway or WAP.

It sounds like you have basic connectivity issues between your Gateway and the AT&T Equipment and need to contact AT&T Support and have them look. I say this because you say:
- Your Internet is not working
- Your broadband lights are blinking (not on steadily)
- You are getting the Red X on your receiver

Anything that requires att people to be dispatched cannot and will not be handled through a user supported forum, and coming here to grouse isn’t going to solve anything. Call the 800 number and escalate to get attention.
