High speed internet equip fee

why am I paying a high speed internet equip fee of $4.00?

I have been using the same old box for years!  No upgrades etc.

Can this be removed?

@knowtax As long as there have been NO changes to your account (including a move to a new residence) you should absolutely NOT be paying that gateway rental fee...Call them back and tell them you want the charge removed PERMANENTLY, not just each month at a time, tell them to resolve the problem in a PERMANENT manner or you will be looking to accomplish it through other avenues. When you tell them this make sure to get the first name and Operator ID number of the rep you speak to, and the work order number for removal of the monthly rental fee, persist and do not take NO for an answer when asking for this information. If the problem continues you can take your records to an arbitration hearing if necessary.

@ham3843  Absolutely wrong again, all Uverse TV users pay a $4 equipmt fee, a discount for TV from the $7 level.  I have been paying it since 2010 or so when they instituted on us. Smiley Surprised

Did you read the OP post....he only states he has U Verse INTERNET ONLY. No mention of TV service at all. The way he posted I don't believe he ever had the TV or phone service in the history of his account.

If he only has had internet U Verse only there WAS NO rental fee. Unless the exceptions my thoughts stated apply and they are rare. So I doubt it.

@mibrnsurg - Before I think a year ago, lots of customer had the option to purchase the RG instead of leasing it, if someone had purchased the equipment they should ne be charged the rental fee UNLESS it was swapped out

@IT_Moose  It was January 2015 ATT changed the TOS about that, but stated any RG out of warranty will be replaced by a leased unit if needing a new RG/$7 fee.  But think ATT is finding the date they bought their last modem, they are sending them an RG a year later and instituting the $7 fee.  But we're talking about a $4 fee, generally imposed only on TV customers, I know I've been paying it for years.

No customers on VDSL though were able to buy their RGs, most on ADSL did and some on ADSL 2+.  And last of all, every new customer will pay the fee from that date in the TOS change 16 months ago. 😉

1) I do not believe they are just sending modems out after 1 year.  If they had been, that would have been all over 5 months ago.

2) U-verse HSI-only (or with Voice, i.e. no IPTV) VDSL2 customers could purchase modems prior to 1/11/15.

Considering I've seen posts that they say no changes were made in their accounts, no service problem and a new RG shows up w/the equip fee, recently.

What RG were they purchasing for VDSL2 Internet/Uvoice? Smiley Surprised

1) You could be right, but... let's just say that neither AT&T nor customers always provide the entire story.
