my receiver is frozen. It only shows three gray dots on screen even after turning off, holding down power for 10+ seconds, etc. Power light is lit but not link or record.

I've done both of the resets that involve using the three finger reset where you push the POWER, DOWN ARROW, and OK keys at the same time. This website calls these procedures Non-Disaster Recovery and Disaster Recovery. I've also unplugged my Uverse DVR overnight. I've also done the unplug for ten-seconds three times in a row procedure. After doing these procedures multiple times I  still have not seen any change in the output image that my Uverse DVR is sending to my TV monitor.

I can watch TV using the antenna input and I can watch TV using Amazon Prime service and I can watch Uverse TV over my ATT router and Wifi setup on my Android smart phone but I can not get my Uverse DVR to show any movement on the screen. All my TV screen displays via my Uverse DVR box, after wasting two or three hours of effort, is a single image of three gray dots in very low resolution. The dots are different levels of gray but they show no movement and there is no spinning image and no image of a gear.

Re: receiver still frozen.

Okay, I've finally seen some change in the image that is streaming out of my Uverse DVR box. It no longer shows the three gray dots. Now it shows a gear centered in the screen with a progress bar at the bottom of the screen. There is no movement anywhere, the gear is not moving and the progress bar is frozen.

I was able to get my Uverse DVR to move from one frozen state to another by combining two disaster recovery procedures at the same time. I unplugged my DVR, then I pressed the power button, plugged the DC power cord back in, and quickly pressed the OK and down arrow with my other hand. Finally some movement. Now I've got two gears of different sizes. And after a 15 minute wait I finally see some change in the progress bar.

I have an IBH8005 receiver/DVR, which is a model that is not listed in the assortment of receivers that have specialized reboot instructions on this website. Is this an orphan model or an out of date receiver?

Ah, my Uverse service is back. Now I can sit down and enjoy part three of Ken Burn's VIETNAM. I first sat down to watch this after supper on Wednesday evening. Now it's Thursday morning, 12 hours later. Oh, I forgot, the hard reset of my Uverse DVR box erased all my recordings. Guess I'll have to go to PBS.COM and watch it streaming on my computer. But first I think I'll get a little sleep.
