Ridicules $49 charge for a new receiver

I need to add another receiver to my account, but AT&T wants to charge me $49 to have some technician come to my house and hook an ethernet cable into the receiver.  I have already tested my connection with another receiver that I have.  So why would you need to send a technician?  So basically I can not add another receiver without paying $49 this is just another way to squeeze money out of your customers.

Cause he's gonna make sure everything works w/both units working at the same time, if Heaven forebid something's wrong.  You'd be calling blazing mad to get it fixed and they'll gladly charge you $99 additionally to fix that 'inside' problem, from a self-install.

Just like the Internet only self-install, if problems, have to get tech repair $99, same price tech install would've been.  He would've checked everything out to make sure it would work properly. Smiley Surprised

Really so what would cause 2 units hardwired to AT&T modem not to work at the same time?

I have tested the circuit by installing one of my other one receivers and letting it run not problem. Plus the ethernet port I'm going to be using has been running my POE access point for about year without an issue, so the cabling good.

New receivers will encounter either:

1) A one-time charge of $49 for you to install a wireless receiver yourself, or

2) A one-time charge of $99 (or more) for a tech to come install a wired receiver.

Or

3) A one-time charge of $49 for you to install a "wireless receiver" yourself by connecting it via an Ethernet cable.

I'm willing to pay the extra $10 month do to the rental, but I will not pay $49 for somebody to come and hook an ethernet cable from the wall to the new receiver.

So I guess I will not be getting a new receiver and giving AT$T another $10 a month.  I'll just move a receiver that is not being used much to the location and then just move receivers when they need to be used in the room that doesn't have the receiver.

So you quote $99  to hookup a cable from a wall jack to the new receiver, that's funny.  The person on AT$T website said it was $49 for tech to come hookup a cable from wall to the new receiver

The standard charge for a truck roll is $99, whether that means bringing a box and an Ethernet cable and hooking it in and watching it work, to making reasonable runs of cable and dealing with unexpected issues.

The $99 charge is to cover the average expense (including fuel, etc.).  It's the policy.

I understand the policy, but why can they not ship me the receiver, no wires need to be run, no technician needs to be sent. If there is an issue then yes I will gladly pay $99 to AT$T to come and fix the issue, but I will not pay the $99 for a technician to come and put cable from the receiver to the wall jack.

I had my dvr receiver go out, and AT$T sent me a new one, it did not require a technician to come and plug the wire in from the wall to the new receiver, and guess what it worked.  So why is it that for a new receiver I need a technician to plug a wire from the receiver to the wall jack.

That's totally different, it's being connected to a known good source, your additional receiver is not a known position to ATT, therefore the $49 charge to add a receiver.

There is 1 person I know got an additional STB by UPS and installed it himself about 5-6 years ago.  He was very surprised that it happened that way, and never a peep about it ever happening again.

You've used $49 worth of time just arguing here about not paying $49. Smiley LOL

Where I'm hooking it to is a known good source I have used one of my other receivers in that jack and it works just fine, I have run an wireless acces point off of it and it's just fine.

This ^ is pure comic gold right there.

The differance is is it's my time spending my money, not my money going to some AT$T rip off scam
