The future for U-verse TV
We've had U-verse TV for about a dozen years. I know before the spin-off of Directv from ATT, there was serious talk of U-verse being shut down/discontinued/sunsetted, but since Directv spun off and included U-verse, I thought there might be hopes U-verse would be reinvigorated, and we would get system upgrades and improvements. So far, that hasn't happened. U-verse is still not being marketed to new customers, and it doesn't even have a page on the new Directv website. But we are getting our monthly bills raised with nothing to show for it. What exactly does the future hold for U-verse TV? Will it simply be maintained as is, at rising costs until the software/firmware fails and the service is shut down? Should us existing customers stick it out to the end, or should we jump ship? I'd love to hear other U-verse TV subscribers' thoughts and opinions.

Charter is the company which sells a service/product called Spectrum.
When U-Verse goes away, the current service is called DirecTV Stream which is very similar to services like Hulu, YouTube TV or Fubo. You could sign up for DirecTV Stream and keep your AT&T internet and phone.
You must have internet for DirecTV Stream, but it could be whatever internet provider you prefer. (I believe you need at least 25Mbps, although faster is definitely better.)

Long time Uverse payer here. Seems like us Uverse subscribers might be the dumb ones. We can't think of anything better so we do not leave.
Where do all the smart people go?
I want to be smart.

If the product gives you what you need, and there is not a better product at a better value, why is it dumb to stay?
Smart people probably read books instead of watching so much TV.

I was one of the first subscribers of Uverse TV. In the past I had a lot of issues with Cable TV from another Company. I then switched to Bellsouth Cable TV and had them until sunset when I then jumped into Uverse TV and Internet. I can honestly say that all my issues after changing to Uverse went away. Before Uverse, when with "the other company", issues like not having internet in the middle of the night or not having TV service on the weekends and then poor customer support when all they said was that the problem was always in my house -- when it was not... and magically regained service by doing nothing -- and the endless arguments and phone time and stress -- Well, all that went away and it’s been like Heaven for the most part with Uverse all these years. Specially once I upgraded my internet to Fiber Gigabit several years ago. Life is good.
So, why good things never last? I will keep Uverse TV until sunset. But the alternatives value/money options are not as good IMHO.

Yes, since being sold summer 2021 to DirecTv.
ATT owns 70% of DirecTv but they have their own CEO, board of directors, financial, etc. In most markets I am aware of they contract with MasTec for installs / repairs of DirecTv.
DirecTv techs also install and support ATT Fixed Wireless released in 2017 for rural and semi rural areas in selected areas of 18 states. ATT Fixed Wireless was intended for 1.1 million addresses, uses an antenna installation similar to a dish from DirecTv. The antenna connects to an assigned cell tower using 4G LTE band 30 only. The last public company report I viewed stated the service had 540 million subscribers or about 50% take rate.
Edit... Uverse IPTV in June 2015 had 7.6 million subscribers... this was before ATT purchase of DirecTv.
It should be noted that Uverse IPTV required a FTTN connection which reached 33 million end of 2015 at completion of Uverse triple play expansion.
Unsure total subscribed to Uverse in 2016 but if assign 30% out of possible 33 million yields around 10 million total subscribers with about 75% of them having Uverse IPTV.
As a tech during that time, it sounds about right, there were older generation accounts that had (4) tvs while only subscribed to internet 3 or internet 6. Most only had one computer which was a desktop pc... no tablets or phones using internet.
Prior to 2016, each speed tier had own pricing level, the faster the speed desired the more you paid.
THE popular plan was PRO or internet 3, list $47 with 12 month $17 discount for net $30 per month internet PLUS $7 gateway fee for $37.
Other plans internet 6 list $52, internet 12 list $57, internet 18 list $62, internet 24 list $72, internet 45 list $82 and internet 75 list $92.

@mcchico -- That's what I plan to do...keep U-Verse until the very end. Nobody knows when that day is coming. Apparently back in 2016/17 or so, installers representing some company...can't remember who...were claiming that "U-Verse is ending" but they were most likely third-party employees trying to hawk Dish or whatever.
It's 2023 and I'd expect at least 2-3 months notice before the final termination. I'm trying to think how much notice Time Warner gave me before they recalled my analog box... although that was a different story since it was an upgrade and not anything like this.
Considering I'm on fiber and REALLY don't want to go back to asymmetrical (where uploads are slower), I'm thinking that DirecTV Stream is a good option... especially since they have RSNs (for now) AND a box where things are set up for channel numbers, which is nice.
The contract that DirecTV has with Bally Sports is set to expire in October and I'm really thinking it'll be renewed, especially since the two companies need each other.

UverseTV is no longer being sold.
Don't mess with old people. The older we get, the less "Life in Prison" is a deterrent.

No. You cannot order U-verse TV.
You cannot order it, please let me be.
You cannot order it here, or there.
You cannot order it anywhere.
It can't be ordered, why won't you see?
This has been answered a number of times... at least three!

@baseballisback I'm also keeping U-Verse til the end, but I wonder how the sunset will be handled. I'm assuming there will be a notice of the sunset through a press release, a notice on the U-Verse message channel, and an email or letter sent to each individual subscriber. But how far in advance... a few months or just a couple weeks?
Then there's the question of what are they going to do with us last remaining subscribers? Will we be grandfathered in to Directv Stream at a permanently discounted monthly price, or will we simply be told to return any U-Verse equipment and not given any incentives or offers to go with Directv Stream, other than what any new customer would get?
And since U-Verse has added some new channels in the past few months (GET, GRIT, FMC), I'm wondering if U-Verse will be around longer than we think it will.

I decided to cancel Uverse with a lot of remorse and sadness. Reason is price. They have been raising prices to the point now the difference in price with other services is very significant. I was willing to pay a premium for Uverse TV - specially after all these years -- but up to a point. I guess raising prices is one way to get rid of us :) Well. It was good (at least for me) while it lasted. I think Uverse TV would have been the best system out there if they would have kept pace. MHO and M2C

@UverseWatcher -- When my analog cable (72 channels, plus maybe 2-3 channels of each premium channel and about 40-some music channels) was recalled, they didn't give us much time. Of course, they gave us all digital boxes and nice upgrades, etc...so it's kind of a different situation.
I'd hope a month, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's less than 10 days. I'd hope we'd all get nice incentives to move to DirecTV Stream, but your guess is as good as mine.
With everything in flux now, I really see no reason to change when the current provider is good enough.
As far as returning equipment, it may just be "please recycle it on your own" because why would they want dead stuff back? Of course, Time Warner wanted their CFT-2200s back for some reason.
Channel additions are weird. I can pay LESS for DirecTV and get the Pittsburgh RSN (not available on U-Verse) and get Reelz which I'd have to upgrade to get on U-Verse.

@mcchico Obviously, your experience was different. I got a year-long discount not that long ago.

I get annual year long discounts also. In fact I'm currently paying less for the U-300 package bundled with internet and home phone than my brother-in-law pays for Comcast Xfinity's lowest basic cable TV package bundled with internet and phone.
I know some people are saying it's getting impossible to get promotional/loyalty discounts for U-Verse, but I find the opposite. It seems like AT&T, at least the sales reps I've been lucky enough to deal with, are giving more generous promotional loyalty discounts to long time subscribers who are sticking it out.
