Thumbs down on the new S20 remotes.
I have a question in regards to the new remote. How is the new S20 remote better than the older S10 remotes? I'm not finding this connection it seems to me that AT&T have taken a step backwards.
I just had some tech work down at my house a couple weeks ago in which the technician replaced my old S10s with these new S20 remotes stating that they were more user friendly, I'm still waiting for the user friendly part to kick in, so far they've been the complete opposite, I am no longer able to control my blueray player with the new S20, my old S10 remote I had the option and was able too. I am also now experiencing on a daily basis losing sync between the TV and the AT&T reciever one turns on and the other turns off and I have no clue how to get them back in sync, there's nothing in the instructions that mention this. What's the point in having a remote if it doesn't work?
If someone could please point out to me how to get the TV and the receiver back in sync so that when I hit the power button they both turn on and off at the same time, that would ease my problem.
Thanks

@RandyB - You are correct att took a conscious step back from claiming universal remote status because it was not fully robust in the s-10 version. especially the aux sound was deficient & they did need that to work better. Like most such remotes it is cludgy.
The synch problem is not new to the s-20. There are many posts about the same problem with the s-10. Fortunately, it is easily remedied.
First - do no harm - that is prevent it - on both turn on & turn off - If you do not turn both off but do turn both on they wil be out synch.
Be sure IR sensors on TV & STB are not obscured.
Fresh batteries - TVs seem to stop responding quicker than STBs.
No waving - be sure to aim the remote while it sends both IR signals - one for the TV & one for the STB. Both when turning on & turning off.
But, if it happens, when you want to watch, there are two cases -
The first case is if the TV does not turn on. If that happens press the power button again As many times as it takes, waiting between clicks to give the TV time to respond) & you will be at the second case - The TV is on & the STB is off.
The solution is just what the screen says - Press OK.
Press OK & they will be back in synch.
Did I mention being just as careful turning it off as turning it on? If the STB is not turned off it is using up one of your four streams. You can use the remote to turn it off or push the button on the front of the STB.

@aviewer You're trying to tell him he doesn't know how to turn it off? Same as he did on the s-10. That s-20 is a piece of junk, only redeeming value is control of soundbars.
Know when both of my silver remotes die, I'm gonna get a cheap Harmony remote.

@mibrnsurg - RE: You're trying to tell him he doesn't know how to turn it off?
No, I am not saying there is a lack of knowledge or abiliy. I was just trying to cover the waterfront on the issue & emphasize that the cause could be on the OFF cycle but, it is not noticed when turning off.
I am not defending the uverse remotes. I have had logitech for ten years & could not stand to use anything else.
I will caution you to get a LH model 650 & ignore the model 350. While it may appear to meet your needs, the 350 is not a full featured remote & as you discover things you may want to do, you will find the 350 cannot do them, but the 650 can.

I still have enough tape to keep them going for many more years.

aviewer was helpful in answering my question in getting them back in sync but I am still left standing with the fact the new remote is very limited in controlling other components such as the older remote was, I had all of my componets operating off of the old S10 remote.
My objective is to simplify by reducing the number of remotes to just one in which the new remote is only adding to the already pile of remotes I have without anything to offer but another headache. I'm really not sure what AT&T were thinking on this, maybe they weren't. The only real answer is to seek out a universal remote with an additional purchase that's compatible with the U-verse receivers.

@RandyB - Glad I could provide some perspective on the synch of the power.
s-10 remotes may be found on e-bay or amazon or local thrift stores.
Remotes for your other devices may claim "universal" function. See if there is a code for u-verse/motorola/cisco.
Here is an inexpensive simple universal remote - http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=RCRP05BR
Logitech Harmony offers support of devices directly with an adder of creating activities such as watch u-verse or watch DVD or watch over the air or ...
when you activate an activity it sets up to do that & presents you a button map accross the devices needed & when you press the off butto, it turns off what it turned on (depending on activity)
The model 650 is recommended. There is also a model 350 that looks attractive, but is missing features. Think of the 350 as a support level like the s-20 & the 650 as support level s-10.
I am not trying to say the work the same just highlight the inadequacy of the 350.

I believe a remote with learning capability might be an option as well, I have in my media room a remote that I purchased 15 years ago at the cost of $200.00 it was a remote way before its time with touch screen technology, computer and macros in which still surpasses today's remote technology, it's the Sony RM-AV3000 if you care to look it up and take a peek. I even use it to control the dimming of my lights.

@RandyB - The Sony example you cite highlights the dif between objectives of the Sony & the u-verse remote.
The Sony had to dazzle you to get you to part with big bucks. The u-verse case you are buying TV content. Back then the big decider was how many channels do you get. For the remote you get the cheapest one they can get away with. You do not pay attention til the tech hands it to you. Believeit or not many people do not even verify their favorite channel is included.
All the LH remotes are "learning".I believe the RCA is, as well.
