uverse tv say network setting changed, will restart in xx minutes. I did not change anything.
What has caused this? I see the problem occurred years ago to several posters but AT&T never replied to them.

I would first start with calling to have the gateway (3801) replaced (likely direct shipment) to a newer model. The 3801 is EOL (end of life) and should be replaced on reported problems. The 3801 is a single pair only gateway with T100 ethernet ports and 2.4Ghz b/g wireless.
As your DVR is on coax, your possible replacement models include the 589, 599 and 5268. As a single pair, I would be inclined to recommend the 589... with T100/T1000 ports and 2.4Ghz b/g/n wireless. This will easily support internet 24 or less that you might have and should give better wifi coverage.
Upgrade to 599 or 5268 provides dual band service, faster speeds on 5Ghz n/ac (not needed in my opinion for your speed tier) but has shorter range resulting in possible lower performance depending on building materials, distance, etc that may require purchasing a wifi range extender.

This normally means the Receiver has lost connection to the network. Is your Receiver connected via a Coax cable, an Ethernet cable or via Wireless?

Jeffer, it is wireless. I have lost tv connection many times before but it just tells me to restart. This is first time it said the settings were changed. It give me the option not to retart - restart now - or wait for the automatic restart.

I understand how to do all this IF I don't have a WAP. If I have one, I don't know what it is. I have a gateway, receiver, and dvr and that is all that I know of. (Yeah, very low tech, ha)

Possible that it lost connection during a firmware update?
While AT&T employees do look at forum posts from time to time, we are here to represent the forum with our experiences as customers and do not represent AT&T in any official capacity with our responses and do so on our own time unpaid and off the clock. As employees we are not rewarded nor compensated to participate in these forums This forum is comprised of regular customers to communicate with other customers to offer advice and share experiences same as any other user Although there is a small team of customer care specialists that monitor the forums the sheer volume of posts are simply too many posts for these agents to respond to each one of them.

Almost all Wireless TV installations have a WAP separate from the Gateway to which the U-verse wireless TV receivers connect. There was a short period in some locations where AT&T tested using the Gateway's Wi-Fi capabilities instead of the dedicated WAP. This configuration was found lacking and a separate WAP remained the standard.
The WAP should be a separate device connected to the Gateway via an Ethernet cable. It would be a Cisco VEN401 (1st gen), Cisco VEN501 or Arris AP-2500.

My apologies for disappearing - I had to leave for an appointment. The system restarted before I did anything and everything seems to be working. I would like to understand what you have described. I still do not think I have a WAP, as nothing is connecting to the gateway. It connects to the receiver as do the other three cables. I am attaching photos of the components.

So, the green cable is signal in from AT&T.
Where do the coax cable and the cable behind the wall plate with the white "data cable" end up?
What model number is on the Gateway?

The gateway is Pace Model 3801HGV FLX. Photo shows cables as connected. The receiver is IPH8005, 2nd photo.

A 3801? How old school. :-)
So the DVR is the IPH8005, which is connected via coax.
So, the white cable goes to the wall and something connects to the wall in some other room? PC?

These components were installed Sep 2018.
Room 1: Gateway 3801 with the white, green, and black cables coming through the wall.
Room 2: TV with the receiver/dvr IPH8005 connected to the wall
In a third room, my laptop - no cable - is wireless connection
I don't understand any of this. The installer said he could not install the gateway in any other room (is in the breakfast room off the kitchen.) The only tv is in the living room. No WAP.

Okay, mystery is solved. You only have one receiver, it's not wireless, it's fed by coax. The only reason I kept looking for your WAP is because you said
DVRs can't be wireless. And I zoomed in on the back of the 3801 and I see that the white cable with the label "DATA CABLE" going into the wall is your back fed dial tone (i.e. you have AT&T Phone and the 3801 is where your phones plug in).

So this is a thing. You didn’t do anything to cause it. I wouldn’t worry about it either.
If you plan to stay with att as your ISP, I’d think about the suggestions to get a more modern gateway, and for extra credit, invest in a solution that doesn’t rely on coax wiring.
