Setup

 

Setup is super easy. Plug it in. Turn it on. Connect to the internet and follow the on-screen prompts. Done! Depending on your setup, the DIRECTV STREAM remote will automatically program itself to your TV.  If not, no worries. It's real easy to setup.

What is the transmission medium for DIRECTV STREAM? Satellite? Landline? Is that connection included in the price? Or is it an OTT service that requires an additional Internet connection? If an OTT service, will it work over any ISP or is AT&T HSI required?

OTT service that works over any ISP. It's DTV streaming at the same cost as DTV and same restrictions. Contracts, fees, etc still exist.

@bcbsncjlj, I'm a Uverse customer who's always interested in saving money. So it's DTV, like Uverse and DirecTV, but without the dedicated transmission medium. Is it cheaper than Uverse and DirecTV (since it doesn't include the medium)? The nice thing about Uverse, and DirecTV, is it doesn't detract from my HSI throughput whereas an OTT service does.

As I previously said - it's DirecTV internet streaming. You supply the internet. Same price structure as DTV. You can go to the website here to get all the specifics that you want.

I have 3 of these boxes in my home today. Can I simply grab one and take it with me when I leave town? If not, can I replace one of my existing boxes with this one and take it with me when I leave town for a month?

How come your official channel lineup show WAY MORE channels than are actually available?

I have DIRECTV STREAM with the XTRA package and all the premiums. Your channel lineup says I'm supposed to get a ton of HBOs, but I only get four.

I get HBO, HBO2, HBO Family and HBO Latino. Your official channel lineup lists HBO Comedy, HBO Zone, HBO Signature. Why do you list those as available when they're not?

Same thing with all the other premiums (Showtime, Cinemax, Starz). The difference between what you say I'm supposed to get and what I actually get is huge.

I'm hoping you can provide me with a valid answer.

@ATTTimCS They also need to let folks know that local channels are not available in most markets... This is why this product stinks so bad right now. I can't advise someone to get this product over YouTube TV. You have a lot of work to do if they want to keep TV alive.

@ATTTimCS @GLIMMERMAN76 And those that have their locals (as I do in Miami), it is a very skinny bundle of locals. Both PBS stations and a handful of other locals are missing. If they're hoping to take people off UVerse onto this new platform, they need to ensure that all the locals are there (at least those that are on UVerse) as well as all the premium channels that UVerse has (referencing back to my orignal post about the channels listed on their website as available that are actually not available.).

@ATTTimCS Same for all other premiums. Starz, Showtime and Cinemax also have less channels than advertised on the website.

P.S. I have the DIRECTV STREAM service, so I'm not sure if I'll get all premium channels, but just checked and read that others with the 2-year subscription DIRECTV STREAM service are also getting less channels than advertised.

@fiberissues No they are partnered with google on this one. You have to get 1 box no matter what from all I have read.

When you subscribe you get one (1) Osprey box included in the price. If you need more boxes you'll have to pay per box. After the first (free) box, you can install the DIRECTV STREAM app on different devices (Firestick, Apple TV), so no need to pay for additional boxes if you already own one of these devices. ROKU's hopefully will become available soon again. There's some dispute on this.

Signed up on the 1st day of national launch on 3/2. Just received my DIRECTV STREAM Android TV box today. After play with that, I am probably going to return and cancel my DIRECTV STREAM service...

The DIRECTV STREAM box only stream at 720p, so image quality is bad and blurry. And, it seems the box software is not stable yet... My DIRECTV STREAM app crashed more than 10 times during around 2 hours of watch tonight...... The app even crashed when I trying to enter the setup menu...... *Sigh*

@tzchang I would tell you, though, that having had the four boxes (yes, I did get four of them) from the day it became available in Miami (November 20th), I haven't had any of the issues you're describing on any of the boxes.

The resoulution on the box is 4K (not 720P), and should adjust automatically based on the type of display you have. And as far as crashing, mine never crash.

I will admit that the interface is slow and cumbersome (like the box doesn't have the necessary processor or memory), but it does work without crashing.

My guess is that you probably got a defective box and I woud agree with @bcbsncjlj that you need to contact tech support or take the box into your neareset store.

Since I ordered the DIRECTV STREAM and fiber together, I will wait a few more days for my fiber installation. Currently, the DIRECTV STREAM is running on Comcast Xfinity network. Maybe that's why it is running at 720p. However, they do claim DIRECTV STREAM works with any ISP......

Hey @tzchang,

If you're still having issues with the box, a factory reset may resolve the issue. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds. You will need to sign back in.

Back to your internet comment, it will work with any service as long as your have a plan that supports not only DIRECTV STREAM but other devices you are using.

No the box doesn't help; also got that too and it never ever works; the second another device tries to log in or god forbid the password changes the entire account is ruined
