Yes costs will increase regardless. So I would rather minimize what that is instead of giving Tegna, or any other local, a blank check (caving to their demands every time instead of negotiating).

Antenna did not go out years ago. It changed to the digital transmissions. It is a free open broadcast over the air, so don't know of any area where it isn't allowed. You may not be in a spot to get good signal, but you are still allowed to get it if you can. Those that have outdated TVs just need a digital convertor box to work with the current generation of antennas.

I wouldn't expect anyone to apologize for wanting to keep their family safe. Living in an area where you need TV to do that is something I would want to avoid as sounds like too risky an area to begin with.

Unfortunately locals are still regulated like any other channel, as entertainment not a utility or other such safety entity. So nothing entitles you to the channel, no matter how much value you get out of it. Unless the industry and Federal regulations shift power away from these local affiliates, Tegna and others can pull their channels and raise their rates that much more as they choose. They are not there to satisfy you with your family's protection anymore than any other channel or TV provider.

@Hammett80 Communities (HOA’s, etc) are not allowed to restrict the use of external antennas. I believe it’s called the Over the Air Reception Device Rule.

@cwaffles

You are correct. That is a Federal regulation to protect our options. Unfortunately, many HOAs bully their neighbors into being complacent. They have too much power, with hardly any oversight of their own, in my opinion.
