Directv Stream 4K
I’m ready to switch to YoutubeTV 4K. Can’t believe it’s taking Directv Stream to get their acts together on this.

Weird!
Who was first to all HD broadcast when all live sports, tv shows, and movies were recorded in HD but not delivered in HD based on bandwidth?? DirecTV
Go back to 480p and enjoy!
Pay an exorbitant price for an inferior quality picture and sound.

Either you pay for a channel without commercials aka HBO, ShowTime,...etc or you don't pay for a channel that has commercials

Just a matter of time before DirectTVStream adds a 4K tier. They will have to, to compete with the likes of Hulu+ live TV and YouTubeTV. I don't think its worth it for those tiers though -- not enough content, since they are stuck with the cheap broadcast networks, still broadcasting in 720 p and 1080i.
In the meantime, I think I'm going to check out YouTubeTV (free trial) and compare to DirecTV Stream for just general content, use and service. And cancel DirecTV Stream and go with YouTube if that's better.

It's no longer a 'tier' for best quality.
Either stream/broadcast the best quality or don't bother.
Again, if you show commercials, I'm not paying.
I pay for no commercials

Then DirecTV is not for you. Most channels have commercials of some sort. Only certain premium channels do not, which you pay on top of your monthly subscription for.
Not everything is available in the "best" quality. Content get provided in how it was made. There are programs avaialble from SD (480) to HD (720 or 1080) and up to 4K (though limited as still is the newer format).
4K is not mainstream yet. Perhaps one day it will be as common as HD, maybe not and it will end up the way of 3D TV, time will tell. Just because there is something better (or seems to be) doesn't mean that it straight up replaces everything else in an instant (if ever). And I wonder if the progression of 4K options has slowed like many other things with staffing and logistical issues seen the past couple of years. Likely 4K is not the top priority for a business.

Ouch! How to Watch Super Bowl LVII in 4K HDR - Consumer Reports
"The game will be available in 4K HDR through TV service providers including Altice Optimum, Comcast Xfinity, Cox Contour TV, DirecTV (satellite), Dish Network, FuboTV, Verizon FiOS and YouTube TV. While other services including DirecTV Stream, Hulu + Live TV, and Sling will carry the game, you won’t be able to watch it in 4K HDR."

Difference between cable/satellite providers and streaming services. Not everyone can handle or afford the bandwidth usage.

Well luckily it looks like the Fox Sports App comes with the basic package of DirecTV Stream, so everyone can watch the Super Bowl using that app this year to see a more pristine feed, if you have DirecTV Stream. But when it is on CBS or some other network, no such luck (barring future changes).

Yes, utterly pathetic. Watching Superbowl on Fox streaming now. At that price and no frigging 4k streaming??? I am done with this nonsense.

Not even the Superbowl in 4k????? Pathetic, especially considering the constant price hikes with zero added value. I'll move on from the nonsense

What is nonsense is losing your mind over not watching in 4K. If you cannot live without it, then choose a provider that has what you want.
Otherwise if you cannot bear to watch unless it is 4K, then catch it on the radio instead.

It is in 4K HDR on the Fox Sports App (which I haven't joined or paid for). It is free. So download and install that if you don't have it. I think the Superbowl and certain other broadcasts do NOT require a paid membership on the Fox sports app. As it is broadcast on the "regular" fox channel. It is the exact same broadcast but in 4K HDR. I think it is upscaled from the regular Fox HD feed, but still looks better than Fox on the direct tv stream app.

All 4k tv's have a native resolution of 4k. They take everything sent to them and convert it to 4K to even be able to display it.
Now come the old saying you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
If the quality coming in is poor the upconversion will be less than stellar to say the least.
When I had Directv satellite service I always kept my recievers set to native. The reason I did this was because some where in the chain there had to be conversion for it to display on your TV set's. The drawback was slow channel changing.
The last time I checked the osprey Box does not have native output ( I wish it did) so I had to make a choice. The choice I made was for the osprey box to output 1080i since this was a good choice for my Tv Set's to upconvert and alot of broadcasters over the air and via Satellite use 1080i. ( I know ESPN and Fox use 720P)Remember I have to make choices. I chose to have my TV do the upconversion because I belive the upconvertors in my Samsung Set's are superior to the upconvertors in the Osprey Box.( which they are). Why did I not choose best available in the Osprey box because I don't like the way the Osprey box tries to upconvert certain signals. Then my TV's try to break it down and re- upconvert some of things I saw where just a mess. I chose for my 4K needs to use outside apps Fox, Espn, and so on for my 4K needs just cleaner and my TV's like it better.
I have taken a clean 1080i signal off antenna from a major broadcaster sent it to my TV set for it to do the upconversion to Native 4k and then set up the Fox app for raw 4k delivery (we think) and then jumped back and forth to compare very close to my old eyes. Remember your 4K tv's have to reconize a pure 4k signal of some reconizable format for it to pass it thru untouched.
I posted to show that 4k is great and will be the format of the future it's just not ready for all the time broadcast just yet.
The better thing Directv Stream could do for our TV set's in a quick manner would be to offer Native signal Pass thru, before they mess with signal. The purer the signal the better the upconversion by our displays.
They most likely will not do this because of the complaints they would get for slow channel changing. It would not be any fault of Directv it would be your Tv doing the upconversion from each format to native resolution for it to display. All their customers would be sure it was the Directv box and the osprey is just passing the signal it just takes a while for your TV to decide what it needs to do to the signal to Display it.
IMHO FYI

South Korea has had 4k Broadcasts using ATSC 3.0 since 2017.
DirecTV's inability to update their systems and provide an improved/up-to-date product for their consumers while constantly raising their rates isn't illegal but certainly pushes people to the competitors.
The Superbowl was shot in 1080p and Fox upconverted to 4k then sent out to the app.
Looked better on Fox app!
