Do Not Signup for Directv!

If I could give zero stars I would. I let AT&T talk me into trying their internet air service with Directv stream. Things were fine during the trial period. After that, my internet speeds slowed down and then a nearby tower went down and wouldn't be fixed for 3 weeks causing work issues since I work from home. It cost me $450 to get out of the contract. The stream service was terrible and difficult to use anyway... went back to my wired in cable service that has worked perfectly for the last 24 years.

They said they sent me an email with the contract but I have no record of receiving this email from them. If I had known there would be an enormous cancelation fee, I never would have agreed to using the service. Directv needs to be investigated by the FCC and forced to refund their ridiculous fees.

If you would of researched before you subscribed you would have seen there was an early cancellation fee. It is nothing that is hidden.

If you paid to get out of a contract then you did not subscribe to DirecTV Stream but DirecTV Via Internet. The 2 services are not the same and require a paid subscription to each. DirecTV Stream has no contract or fees. It's bring your own device. DirecTV Via Internet does have a contract and fees.

There are two different streaming services available.

DIRECTV STREAM: Bring Your Own Device, no contract/service agreement.

DirecTV via Internet: Provided streaming box with 24 month service agreement. Billing model and service agreement similar to traditional DirecTV (satellite).

So getting the service that has the 24 month agreement makes the ECF valid. That is the model they have had for years with nothing against the FCC.

However it seems the primary complaints is about AT&T's Internet Air service (slow speeds, tower down, dependent for work-from-home, etc.) resulting in the streaming service not working optimally (which would be the same for any streaming service as they only go through whatever internet you have).

Do not signup for any TV provider without doing proper research. Make sure to read all paperwork (paper or digital). Internet Service Provider (ISP) and DIRECTV STREAM or DirecTV via Internet are separate so one having an issue does not result in compensation to the other (so no ECF waiver for internet issues for example). But I get that is not as simple and catchy for the title of the thread.

Here's my gripe... AT&T signed me up for Directv Stream with no mention of a 24 month commitment or a cancelation fee. While there might be a contract I agreed to, my eyes are not good enough to read even the regular print yet alone the fine print. And, there's no good reason they need to have this policy in place. It doesn't cost them anything at all for me to start or cancel their service. It's nothing more than a way to take advantage of customers....shame on them!

Shame on you for not doing your homework in advance, no matter who the provider is.

If you can't read fine or regular print, then don't make the purchase! Otherwise you are willingly going in blind. Might as well of signed a blank check that you couldn't read the amount.

The 24 month agreement is because they are providing you equipment instead of you going out and purchasing your own. This is essentially the same as regular DirecTV (satellite). So they are recouping their investment on you.

They provided me NO equipment. I had to use the stream service on my smart TV via my internet provided by someone else. I did ask about cancelation fees and was told there were none but that was obviously not correct.

Obviously, if you are paying a cancellation fee. You need to verify exactly what service you subscribed to: DirecTV Via Internet or DirecTV Stream. As previously noted, DirecTV Stream has no contract or fees, but DirecTV Via Internet does have a contract and additional fees.
