Free unlimited dvr

According to multiple sources, including the directv stream website, new customers will be receiving unlimited dvr for no extra charge. Will us existing customers who are currently paying the $10 a month for it be receiving it for free as well?

I already told you where to go in your account settings to turn off auto sign in. A Dtv rep doesn't have to do it. U can toggle it off on your account settings---then sign in on a new account

I asked two reps if they can add unlimited DVR to my account as an existing customer and they said sorry, there are no promotions for that. I chatted with a rep on Twitter with direct message and I also called and spoke to a rep and they both said not an option for existing customers. The funny thing about it is it doesn't cost them much to add it to an existing customers account. The new customers are not going to care if the existing customers have it as well, so really as a marketing thing I don't know who thought of this. So if you cancel today and sign back up tomorrow are they going to block you from getting the unlimited DVR?  I doubt they're going to give existing customers unlimited DVR very quickly because on the website it says new customers only. I don't get it because even when you see cell phone deals it's for new and existing customers. YouTube TV has unlimited DVR. Fubo I believe has a minimum of 500 hours. 20 hours is a joke.

Why vent about it. They say new customers only. Just cancel and signup again using a different email if you want it. Gee its no big deal!

Any official response @DIRECTVhelp ?

Come on @DIRECTVhelp, respond to this thread and give us the details.

No one here wants to pay $120 a year for this feature that is free with all other streaming providers.  I also shouldn't have to go through the hassle of canceling an account and creating a new account, especially when I only signed up for the service in the last 2 months.  Don't make things difficult for customers and don't use cell phone company tactics to exploit existing customers.

It's not free with all other streaming providers (not Hulu, not Sling, not Fubo).  And all companies run promotions to get new customers that they don't offer existing customers - for example, YouTube TV is currently offering $10 off for 3 months to new customers.  (And the local water deliver company is offering 3 free 5 gallon jugs for new customers - that's just how things are.)  I'm not sure what you want them to tell you  - the details of who qualifies for the "free unlimited DVR" are on their website.

This isn't a teaser rate, this is a discount in perpetuity.  What I want is not to be exploited by a company that can clearly offer this service at no additional cost, but chooses only to offer it to new subscribers.  This isn't a contract service, so a new customer isn't obligated to stay with DirecTV.  There is clearly no business justification to offer a better rate to new customers while screwing over existing customers.  We can all leave at any time, so DirecTV is setting up a zero-sum game if the new subscriber offering only aggravates existing customers and causes them to leave the service.  In the end, DirecTV doesn't expand its subscriber base.

Absolutely they're only interested in getting new customers for the shareholders. That makes sense and is understandable that they want to do that. The bigger issue is a sour taste with existing customers and they're willing to take the chance of while gaining new customers, losing old customers. They must have a formula in place that calculates the churn for existing customers versus how much they'll gain with this offer for new customers. It is tough however to get people to leave YouTube TV and this is why they went with the unlimited DVR at no additional cost. The lowest package is about $70 a month and it's close to YouTube TVs offering. The one big thing YouTube TV has over DirecTV stream is the amount of time you're allowed to keep the recordings. Also let's not forget that there have been many complaints about sports events that go into overtime. DirecTV's DVR has an issue when there's overtime, it will cut off the game if it goes beyond the program guides time for the next program to start. Back to not giving the unlimited DVR at no additional cost to existing customers, It doesn't cost anything for a rep to give it to a customer that asks. But hey it's their choice and if they want to play that game and gamble. We do have choices though which is good for us if we decide that their game is stale.

I think this will say a lot for the new management. This is really stepPing up to the plate for Directv stream and putting them in the drivers seat for streaming services.

IF IT HAPPENS.

I was told on January 21 all customers were going to get free unlimited dvr in 2 days. Never happened. I had copies of the transcripts called yesterday and received 10 dollars off my Choice package every month for a year b/c I was "misinformed"  Keep that transcript if it doesn't happen then you can get a discount.

It's not looking good that @DIRECTVhelp hasn't commented on this post and there has been no transparency on this topic at all from DirecTV.  I've read about the appeasement gesture of a $10 discount for 12 months, twice now.  Sounds like if you are a squeaky wheel, this is the most grease they are willing to offer.  If you are getting a different story, these are empty promises by customer service to get you off the line.
