DTV's website doesn't have an Xtra package so you have to call to see if it is available.

If you already have DirecTV, then log into your account and see about package options. You may have to call if it is below your current package, as they like a live agent to talk to you about anything that reduces revenue.
However for new customers, the Xtra package is not currently available for intro promotions. Unclear if it is grandfathered, or just not an option for starting specials. And keep in mind, the package cost is not your entire bill. You still pay for each authorized TV, receiver services, regional sports, optional add-ons, and taxes.

The Xtra package is an old package that is no longer available. If you already have this package, you are grandfathered. I think the closest equivalent package that is currently available is the Ultimate package.

I wouldn't call Ultimate equivalent as they both existed at the same time. Before any grandfathering it was Family, Select, Entertainment, Choice, Xtra, Ultimate, Premier.
So comes down to Choice or Ultimate, naturally the higher package having the additional channels.

If I look at the channels that I actually get with the grandfathered Xtra package that I have and the listing of channels for the current Ultimate package they are almost equivalent. The channels that I don't get are 4K channels since I don't have any 4K TVs and a few channels that require newer DVRs and receivers than the HR24 series that I have.
I recently went through this exercise because I considered changing to a less expensive package.

Only the 4K channels require new equipment. And there is only a handful of them.
HR20 thru HR24 get the same channels as that is just HD, compared to R16 and below which were SD-only. Matters as some channels don't have an SD version.
Sounds like Xtra didn't make the cut with all the new carriage agreements. So have to jump up to Ultimate for those additional channels.
Hope the Preferred Xtra package is not grandfathered. Nice sweet spot for those that watch little to no sports.
