Black screen / No sound
I'll be watching TV, and the screen will go black with no sound. It's as if the tv turned off, but it hasn't. No error message at all, after a few minutes the picture and sound come back.

DVR/Receiver model number?
What channel(s)?
How is the DVR/Receiver connected to your TV?
When did the problem start?
What troubleshooting have you tried? Reset the DVR/Receiver?

DVR HR54-500, connected with an HDMI cable
It happens on different channels most recent was ch 305
Started about a week ago. DVR has been reset a number of times.

Are you sure it's not a TV issue? Do you have any other HDMI sources that you can try?

Some things to try.
Verify HDMI cord is secure and free of debris on both ends.
Try another HDMI cord and even another port on TV (if either is available).
Test with another HDMI device.
Unplug power from TV for at least a minute to reset it.
Verify that TV is up to date on any software/firmware.
Also, make sure the HR54 is not plugged into a "smart" power strip. Some of these don't play well with DirecTV equipment.

Cables etc all good. It happens on multiple TVs, any channel over 200.
I'm thinking it's a DirecTv issue.

It could be an issue with your satellite dish or cabling, especially if it's happening on all of your DirecTV boxes. It's not a widespread DirecTV issue, though. Probably best to call for a service visit. Keep us posted on what the service tech finds.
