You can't, once deactivated the software will not allow it to be reactivated as DTV hasn't supported it for years and it was left to run as is and new receivers don't even have a phone jack.
If it is the 2nd generation Genie (HR44) then you cannot. Last to have phone jack for the outdated feature, but first to get the new software.
But if it is any box before that, then you go into Menu and Extras and their should still be a option for Caller ID. Though not guaranteed to keep working since updates for it stopped a long time ago and it only supports plain old telephone systems (POTS).
Thanks for your response. I don't see "Extras" listed on the menu screen, so I'm guessing my Genie must be an HR44. I can't believe I clicked on the wrong option when my phone rang with yet another telemarketer. I really could kick myself!
If you go into the Menu and into Info and Test it should show it on the screen. It is also on a label behind the access card door on the front panel.
This does put the 2nd generation Genie (HR44) in an odd spot. Last to have phone jack, but first with new software removing outdated and discontinued features. If this is the one you have, once disabled it is gone. And software updates would have done that anyway with the new interface so feature was on borrowed time for that model.
