Can anyone tell me when I’ll be able to watch recorded shows on my iPad/iPhone?
I have satellite based DirecTV and going on a year now I’m unable to access shows I have recorded on my DVR’s on my iPad or iPhone.
So rather than contact tech support and staying on the phone for 30-45 minutes while I’m switched to different departments only to be told it is coming soon I’d thought I’d reach out here and ask if anyone who has successfully watched a recording on a DVR in the past year. I’m reaching the point of cancellation now. I wouldn’t be this upset but the app is designed for accessing DVR content but doesn’t work. I pay a premium to DirecTV for advertised SLA that INCLUDES THE ABILITY TO ACCESS CONTENT VIA MY iPAD!!

Streaming remotely from the DVR is not possible. The only way to watch DVR content on iPhone/iPad is to download it. That is the functionality currently missing in the new app and supposedly coming. I don’t believe anyone knows when.

The answer to your topic is no. This is because nobody can predict the future on when/if you will be able to.
You cannot stream what is recorded out-of-home on anything. That is a feature removed years ago because it never worked well.
The recent option was if you had the 2nd/3rd generation Genie (HR44/HR54) you could download what is recorded from the box (The Genie, not your HR20 or anything else) to your mobile device for watching on the go. This was authorized for 30 days (as you cannot permanently copy content). However, DirecTV has launched a new app to be used wither you are a DirecTV or DIRECTV STREAM subscriber and has a bunch of bugs still. So the MobileDVR feature hasn't been implemented into the new app yet.
In the end, DirecTV is for watching on your TVs. Any online/mobile perks are secondary. If watching on your iPAD instead of your TV is critical for you, then DirecTV is not for you.
