Cancelling of History Channel
I discovered that I could not watch History Channel. Through the forum I learned that DirecTV decided to cut the subscription to receivers that they felt weren't watching it as much as they would like. HMMM, am I the only one that sees a problem with this?? I didn't watch TV last month as much as I normally do, therefore I am going to send $20 less on my bill. Would ATT sit still for that?? It's exactly the same principle, only we are people and they are a large company.
I know I can request it to be restored, but that is not the problem here. The problem is with a provider that felt it would be acceptable to pull such a stunt. I want them to know I am looking for another provider with the channels I want, and that has the courtesy to provide me with what I pay for. When about 10,000 other subscribers feel the way I do, then maybe ATT will get the message. I have been with DirectTV for years, and have even felt some degree of loyalty. But this is the end of that!

It was moved to a different package because total viewership no longer supported it in its current package.

Sometimes programming gets rearranged. They can do so at any time per the Terms of Service. Fortunately a situation where channels move package levels does not happen often. They have to pay the networks based on the packages they are in. If it is not a good value in the lower packages, of course they will work with the channel owner on moving packages to a setup that is better for the business.
Yes DirecTV is based on a monthly service, not per minute. So how much you personally watch it doesn't change the bill.
In the end they decide their billing model and package options. As the customer, we can only choose from the available options. We don't own the company so cannot tell them how to have it setup.
You want them to know you are canceling then call them. Just be aware that all TV providers have the same clause that allows them to change programming at any time. There is no guarantee you will always have the channels you want. They provide you a delivery method (satellite, cable, streaming, etc.), not a guarantee of any particular channel. You could start service and have your channels change within a week (yes an exaggerated example, but one within their rights).
