cancelling
I have been with Directv forever. I am paying close to $260 per month. Upgraded from genie & dvr to genie 2. I was told my directv tv and countless of people on the customer service line that I woudn't have to share the recordings between genies. Unfortunately that is not true. I just changed to comcast which enables me to see & view only what I record on each genie. I will be taking my equipment back and cancelling tomorrow even with a $240.00 early cancellation fee.
Try training your people and upgrade your software.

Sorry, you were told the wrong information about the Genie DVR. Since you canceled your service and you are going to be returning your equipment make sure you keep your proof of returning the equipment sometimes they try and charge you for not returning it even though you did. As long as you keep your proof of return then you can dispute it if you are charged. Good luck with your new service provider.

Don't just take your equipment back somewhere, like an AT&T store. You need to call and cancel first (number below). Then you'll return your equipment via a UPS or FedEx Shipping Center.

Too many agents misrepresent their newest and (not)greatest equipment, the Genie-2 (HS17). It is a server tower that only allows Clients. One DVR to rule them all. The regular Genie line which allows HDDVRs is the best overall and reliable setup.
Comcast doesn't have a "Genie". That is DirecTV brand of their Advanced Whole Home HDDVR. Equipment under Comcast would have a different name.
Well since you didn't pick up boxes in a store, but were tech installed (DirecTV doesn't have stores) you are not taking it back in the traditional sense. You take to a participating FedEx or The UPS Store with your account number for the free return. Keep receipt showing they took possesion.
But do not take equipment to be returned until after you have canceled the account. Dropping boxes off to be returned doesn't notify of account cancellation. Just make sure you do this in the right order. Also account doesn't cancel until the end of the billing month, so there is no credit on your bill for a partial month.
Also, equipment upgrade is a 24 month agreement which is valued at $20 for each month you have remaining. Your ECF would only be $240 if you have had your upgrade a year already.
