Directv app disappeared
The Directv app for my satellite service disappeared on my Samsung Smart TV. I tried reinstalling it, but the only option that comes up is for the streaming app. I tried going to Google to download, but it said it could not be accessed from that device. How do I get my app back?

Hi @cp122578. Yes, the DIRECTV App is not compatible with Samsung TVs for our via Satellite customers. Visit https://www.directv.com/support/article/000093525 for the list of compatible devices. Christian, DIRECTV Community Specialist

The icon was working on this smart tv, but it disappeared. How can I get back on the TV. The article only showed streaming devices that it is compatible with, so why no smart TVs?

The DIRECTV app is not compatible with Samsung TVs, but we are evaluating compatible devices. Thank you for your feedback. We will forward your suggestion to add Samsung TVs to the compatible devices list for review. Fatmih, DIRECTV Community Specialist

The old separate apps for DirecTV and DIRECTV STREAM were discontinued. There is now one app for both services, but only if your device is compatible.
Historically their apps don't work well with the 'smart' TV versions. Better to have a dedicated streaming device (Roku, Firestick, etc.). Though if this is for the satellite service, you would need a DirecTV box to get the full service anyway (since streaming options are secondary perks).

How would there be a capability problem with the TV when there was an APP that worked for 5 years. I have figured out an alternative. I have it detect the HDMI that it is connected to. There is an icon for that.

Individual apps and TVs don't get the same updates. So sometimes an update breaks compatibility, especially if an old app is no longer updated. Though TV makers do want you buying a new TV at some point so do not put effort into supporting specific apps indefinitely. Unlike a box dedicated to streaming, that feature is only to encourage you buy a TV and then buy a new one within so many years when it doesn't keep up.
I'm also wondering if an update on the service side may have discontinued permissions for the old app. In any case, sometimes we just have to move forward. But glad your HDMI fixed the issue. (Though if that is for casting from a mobile device to the TV, that wasn't supposed to work for the satellite service because of house sharing violations and such).
