Directv App functionality compared to regular Directv
We just found out we can use the DirecTV app on our new TCL Roku TV (and get rid of the Genie box) but we are struggling to figure out how to use the app. For example, my husband will frequently pause 2 shows and then flip between them. Or pause a show and then watch something previously recorded using the DVR feature. How do we do things like this in the app? Is there a good user guide somewhere?

You cannot access recordings in the app. They recently combined DirecTV and DIRECTV STREAM into a single app. DirecTV is still supposed to have a receiver/client on each TV, and you pay $7 for each authorized TV. Historically the app is only supposed to allow streaming on TV for DIRECTV STREAM but block that for DirecTV (satellite) as that was intended for on mobile (smart phone or tablet) only. There are many bugs with the new combined app to be fixed over time.
At least for now, on TV you have satellite or streaming. Maybe down the road there will be a fluid option between the two. At this time you will need your Mini Genie Client or a receiver on that TV for your full proper service.
