DirecTV app incorrectly claims not enough space
I have 10.95 GB of free space on my iPad, yet the DirecTV app says I can't download an hour long show because I need 538 MB. I get errors like this constantly! Sometimes the app will say there isn't enough space and then actually downloads anyway. Deleting the app and reinstalling will sometimes fix the issue, but this is extremely inconvenient since then I lose anything I was able to already successfully download. I don't have any issue downloading entire movies from Netflix or Amazon Prime. I have an iPad 6th generation, iOS 12.3.1 and have the most recent version of the DirecTV app.

Hey, @WVFloydFan!
Thanks for reaching out! We'd be glad to help you get your DIRECTV App working properly.
Was your app working properly before, did it just start doing this recently? We'd recommend reading up on DIRECTV App Troubleshooting.
Let us know if this helps!

It's been happening for several months. I've tried all the generic suggestions (restart iPad, reinstall app, etc) and sometimes that will enable a temp fix to downloading one particular thing but I can't find anything that really fixes the problem. Like I stated before, having to reinstall isn't a sustainable fix since I then lose anything else I did actually get to download. Being able to download things off my DVR and watch away from home and without WiFi is a major part of usage that has now become unusable. Really devalues my service. Don't have any problems with downloading in other apps (Netflix, Amazon Prime) and i had a TiVo DVR ten years ago that I could do this with without any issue. Can't figure out why DirecTV can't seem to provide an app that just works. Even before these space issues I was continually having to reinstall on my iPad, my iPhone, on a different iPad, because the app would stop recognizing my DVR. App has always been buggy, but it's becoming unusable.

HI @WVFloydFan,
We will be happy to help! Just a quick question. does this issue happens on any other devices, of just on this iPad?
We look forward to your response and the opportunity to help you!

I normally am only attempting this on my iPad, but just tried on my iPhone with the same result. 6.23 GB free on the phone and yet I can't download a one hour show.

Hello @WVFloydFan,
Thanks for providing all the additional information.
You mentioned trying some generic troubleshooting already, does that mean you've already tried clearing the app data, as well as cookies and cache for the device? Also please change your password for the login.
Please let us know if you have and if this resolves your issue.

I changed my password a few weeks ago. I have tried completely deleting the app and removing all documents and data for the app, as well as doing a complete reboot of the device, which will sometimes provide a temp fix but the error comes back. And this just means I have to delete something I had successfully downloaded in order to download something new, which means I can only have one thing downloaded at a time. And at the same time the app is telling me I can't download because I need a few hundred MB, I can then go and download several GB of movies from Netflix.
