Directv DVR and Remote

Is it possible to operate a DIRECTV DVR with my DIRECTV remote without standing directly in front of the DVR?

I hooked up a 2nd TV (back to back) of my existing TV - but its outside in my Veranda ( there is a sliding glass door separating )

I'd like to know if there was any way to operate, connect something to, the DVR (which is on the other side of the sliding glass doors)?

To try to clarify - when I'm outside in the Veranda, the DVR I'd like to operate is 10'' away, facing in the opposite direction

Sounds like you need RF, not simply IR.

What model is your DVR?

Hello, @CoachRiggo. Let's help you check on your remote options.

Let's meet in a Direct Message to take a closer look at this. Please check your DIRECTV message inbox (the chat icon next to the bell in the upper right corner of the Forums).

Thank you.

You can change your HR54 remote to use radio frequency instead of infrared. What remote control model number do you have?

HR54 is the 3rd generation Genie. It supports RF.

Do you have the Genie remote (RC7X series) or the older white universal remote (RC6X series)?

@CoachRiggo the RC73 should be able to do RF mode with the HR54. You may try new batteries, however this has no astronomical effect on range. You must go to Menu, Settings, Remote Setup, and IR/RF setup. Choose ‘RF’ and follow the on-screen instructions to get the remote programmed for RF.
